i haven't drawn in like 7 years... cause i just didn't really care to... but taking this drawing class this semester... i found i could... i've only been to like 4 classes... and the teacher said to practice drawing in our sketch pads... (we've only been drawing 3-D styrofoam shapes).... so of course i wanted to draw something more fun that that... so i did a portrait of me... here's the 2nd one with the pic alone...i did this in about 3 hours maybe... including going to eat dinner...
sorry i could only take pics of this... i dont have the software yet to hook up my scanner... i'll resubmit it later when i get it scanned in here so it'll be a better looking pic...
p.s. just wanted to show you all these... sorry i haven't responded to any comments yet... i will asap! (MARDI GRAS WEEK

That is a great piece of art! I love the shading and the way the hair is done.
But I agree with Suriasys about the eye.

yea that's what my art teacher said too... hmmmm... i tried to do it the way i saw it... guess i messed it up cause it's of myself... oh well... i tried... i'll definately do better next time... this was my first drawing with shading an actual person

ah, well it looks pretty good. But if you're wanting to work on shading, you should ignore solid lines. Don't outline anything at all. Just squint and look at the shapes of bightest areas and darkest just so you get an idea of where they are. Then just start shading in all the darkest areas and nothing else. It willl look weird at first but it will start to take shape. Unless you're working on a darker canvas with a white/grey pencil, then you'd just do the highlights. I can show you one of my piece if you'd like. But anyways. You have plenty much potential I'd definetly keep at it if I was you (:

I looked and it seems I've misplaced most my stuff. I've just got a crappy white on black piece I did from a model a while back, not great. But I could email it to you or somethin later. I take it you're in college though in like art 2 if you're learning that stuff right now?
