This is my entry for Monty Oum's Dress Sphere contest. My sister and I had recently become aware of his work on Youtube and quickly became fans. Then Su found he had a DA, and I saw he was holding a contest.
He'll use the winner's design for Rikku's outfit in Dead Fantasy III. I can only hope to win, but there's a lot of talented people giving their own try. @_@
Wow... I haven't felt so inspired to draw in 3 weeks. Thanks Monty for sparking my creative juices to flow again! <3 School's been rough on me. Nyaaarrrr...

**Note: I never played FFX-2, so I have no idea what the dresspheres look like. This is all my own concept.
EDIT: I drew the rear view of her outfit, and gave a slightly changed the weapon design. I didn't add a shadow cuz I was lazy.

This is too similar to the original, basically the same blades but chained to her, and yea... just to similar...

They're chained to eachother, not to her. Thanks for the imput though. >.> You mean FFX original or FFX-2 original?

When I first read the title of the picture, I was like "didn't Monty say...".
But once I read into it, I have to say, I'm impressed at the idea. WEAPON FUSION! Nice one.

Murrrr.... huh? "Didn't monty say" what? O.o
If it's about the gunblades, I kinda wish I hadn't added that detail. I might put an alternate design next to it. >.>

Nah, nah - was making a joke. If you recall, Monty's contest guidelines mentioned not using existing dresspheres - but you took an interesting loophole and MIXED two.

AWESOME!! There's gonna be a Dead Fantasy III!!
I didn't play FFX-2 either. I had a feeling I wouldn't like it at all. But FFX was a great game. I loved the story line. Rikku was kickin' ass and taking names in that game! She was an all around cool character. I like your Rikku design. The leg thingys are neat! I like the shirt most of all. It's funny shapededed

I know, i'm so excited. But we all have to wait. XD He said he has to find time to do it first.
It's called a halter top. I though she'd look cute in one. It took me soooo long to figure out the colors of her leg stuff. meh. But i like the end result!

I love it! It's so... Rikku.. ish. Yeah, you get my point. My only concern is the weapons. They are like a cross between her normal weapons and Rinoa's gunblade (Squall's really). Don't get me wrong, it's incredible, but If I were Monty, I'ld be looking for weapons that are as different from the current ones as possible. Then again, the chain really opens up a new avenue for melee attacks.
Also, 3 weeks? Try 3 years. I haven't drawn since high school (random doodles of Sonic the Hedgehog excluded).

Thanks. ^^
You have a point there about the gunblades. I just added it as a minor detail cuz I felt something was missing. >.>;; I personally don't care if he'd want them just as blades or not. After I finished it, I looked through other people's work and realized a lot were using chains... I felt like i had jumped on the bandwagon without knowing it. -_- I prefer to stay away from that type of thing...
Wow. I feel... so sorry for you. Drawing is my life. Going a few days without drawing (for myself) is like sticking me in prison.

Nuclearwarhawk In reply to RoxyRoo [2008-04-03 08:09:11 +0000 UTC]
The costume itself is still amazing, so the gunblades are really just a minor setback. Again, they're not bad, but they don't stand out as being something new and fresh.
As for my lack of drawing, this contest has made me feel like taking it up again. I started drawing back when I was obsessed with Dragon Ball Z, but then the reason I stopped was because I'm self-taught, so it always takes me days to finish a single drawing. We'll see how motivated I'm feeling after this contest is over.

RoxyRoo In reply to Nuclearwarhawk [2008-04-03 14:49:14 +0000 UTC]
If I changed it, I'd probably just get rid of the "gun" part of it and keep the blade design. I likes the blades. <3
You don't have to be self taught. There are so many tutorials you could look to for help on practically anything. Also, depending on where you live, there might be some studios or artist schools that have open figure drawing sessions. I'm sure the artists there would love to help.

I have never found any tutorials, books, etc. that ever helped, or taught me things that are relevant to my style of drawing. The only exceptons are simple cartoon characters like Spongebob Squarepants (I had to draw him for an assignment at school once), Sonic the Hedgehog, etc. I do better if I just have a picture, model, toy, etc. for reference (I have a hard time getting proportions right when I draw freehanded). As for classes, that's a bit much for me considering it's only a hobby. I can't see myself ever using my art to make a living. The same goes for music, which I also haven't played since high school (that one is because percussion instruments are too expensive, and too bulky. Maybe once I start making more money?)

I wasn't talking classes. Open Sketch sessions are regularly held at studios and schools for people who just want to draw, but don't have a model or what ever. I've been to them before, and they're usually free.

Which pirate one? Mine, or someone else's? If you mean mine, I'll be very surprised. That's my least favorite of the three I submitted. Different tastes?
Anyway, just wanted to let you know, Monty has faved this one. You know what that means. Kudos!
