I'm thinking Despero would make for a fine enemy for the League to cut their teeth on.

Yeah, basically.
Semantics.Β Β
For me, I usually view Superman's view on killing as saved for when it's absolutely necessary. Besides the code he was raised with, with his power, he knows he can't end lives as often as others can, because he'd get away with it far too often. Especially since his super-senses allow him to feel death in a way that few other people can. Those same super-senses would also be enough to get a good handle on whether Lex was lying or not. And besides all that, while I would imagine the League would be more on edge during Death In The Family than during other incidents, Superman cares about everybody in a way that makes most hostage situations stressful for him. If he hasn't killed Lex during the times he's put Lois or Lana or Jimmy in danger, I think he could contain himself during this. The only time I bought that killing someone would cause Superman to kill when it wasn't necessary was with the Justice Lords, and that was because it wasn't the grief that motivated him, but the disappearance of a good influence. Overall, I get where you're coming from, but it falls on the wrong side of the line for me.
Wow, that is fairly short.Β
No problem. I know I'm probably the hardest to please among your regular commenters. The civility is appreciated.

Feedback, especially abything constructive is my drug of choice. I am very analytical. I take feedback, break it down, figure out what is worth a try, what to ignore, and what to incorporate fort he future.
I like disagreements and seeing how these characters can be interpreted in a million different ways.
This scene in question could be Superman bluffing. Myabe going too far in it, so Batman steps in, unsure of the bluff. Maybe Clark had a bad week, saw a school bus of kids die and seeing Jason get tortured made him snap so he has super tunnel vision and can't focus on anything or use his super senses effectively to accurately read Luthor's ticks and bio-signs. Maybe Lex has never threatened Lois or Jimmy or anyone Superman has cared about until now, maybe Jason just gave Clark a really nice birthday gift. Kinda being silly. Kinda in a hurry.
Thanks for this talk.

Good, the healthy reaction.
That's fair. I still can't say I'm fond of it, but I get what you're saying.
No problem!

Awesome! Huh, interesting how Batman's coming off as the more tame one and Superman is giving into his anger. Especially this being when Jason was still being held hostage by the Joker. Just find that interesting.

Batman's the detective. He knows Lex isn't involved, directly. Trust me, you'd see something totally different if he got his hands on the Joker at this time. Plus, he probably did something like put a bug in Lex's office or copy his hard drive while Superman had Lex's attention.

That's trueΒ Β I love the fact that you and Phil are making this Batman a detective first and a superhero second. You're right, he'd most likely bug Lex's office during his time there, very Batman thing to do. I guess I'm just so used to Batman throwing criminals and suspects up and down the room when it comes to his protege's getting kidnapped.Β

As much as I like the funny/humorous VOX thingies, a solidly dramatic one is good, too. Was the Solar Flare mention a Dragonball Z reference? Never followed Superman comics that much and only know of his power set via the DCAU, Young Justice and Lois and Clark: The Adventures of Superman.
. . . I just dated myself, I know.

Thanks.
The Solar Flare is a new power with the New 52, essentially he discharges all of his stored solar energy and creates an explosion that renders him essentially mortal and powerless for a fime while he regains his energy stores. It's a power of last resort.

That Vox Box was unexpected. An interesting take, I liked it.

Wow, so not only does batman inspire superman to become a hero but he may have accidentally shown Luthor how to knock the big guy down...talk about the downside of pragmatism, good lord. Like the man of steel inspiration and I'm loving that Luthor sounds like he should, calm, controlled and his psychosis is concealed...for now.
