She's ignorant of earth customs and the like, but that she's not stupid 
Heck, most of the time she just has a wide-eyed idealism that makes her have a sort of curiousity on things. PLUS it's also a culture thing with her people; they're just WAY Open about their feelings and their emotions, since in her case she doesn't see the issue with swimming in the buff or anything. (Remember, jungle planet; it's likely a normal thing for family and friends to do that.)
