Thought I would give this a try since I don't usually do/finish memes. Also tried to keep to the extra rules, only reason why Tyranitar is in Johto instead of Lugia.
Kanto: Dragonair (Dragon)
Always been a favorite so there wasn't any real contest.
Johto: Tyranitar (Rock/Dark)
This pokemon was defiantly not one of my favorites as a kid. I had no problem defeating Red compared to the man hiding in Viridian City with the high level Tyranitar back in the original gold/silver games. This was probably because my party contained plenty of psychic pokemon. Since then though I jump at any chance to catch it just because of that memory.
Hoenn: Medicham (Fighting/ Psychic)
I actually never used Medicam in the R/S/E games, it wasn't till I played Pearl that it made a spot in my party, and that is only because it was my first shiny pokemon I ever caught (excluding Red Garados), and still have it today. I actually had no idea shiny pokemon was an actual thing back then, always thought the Red Garados was a one off bonus.
Shinnoh: Froslass (Ice/ Ghost)
This one is purely for it's design and origins, I'm a huge sucker for japanese mythology.
Unova: Leavanny (Bug/ Grass)
I've never been a grass type (or bug on that matter) lover, most of my parties through the generations always lacked one. Leavanny is the exception, it's been a long time party member in my White run through.
Kalos: Noivern (Flying/ Dragon)
I've never had it in my party (because I have yet to finish Y) but boy does it look cool.

I love your team... is Dragonair there because of the Dragon/Flying restriction or because you prefer him over Dragonite? Im very curious

I was trying to keep with the single of each type too but I couldn't make up my mind on the Kalos pokemon and just went with Noivern.
Dragonair is my favorite out of it's evolution, mainly for design, cheap reasoning I know. XD

That's NOT cheap reasoning !! In fact, that's my favorite reasoning LOL
I always make my team like that in fact, because I don't like how competitive teams doesnt include any of my favorite anyway
After all, even the hero of the cartoon, Ash Ketchum, have a Pikachu as his strongest Pokemon... Too often, people love their Pokemons if they have a winning chances with them, explaining why they selected some as their favorites...
But thinking like that makes some Pokemon fall in the shadows rather quickly, while alien concept, like Bronzong or Gardorbor still have fans because they are strong.
All that to say that you have every right to love a preevolution better or even one that is not hyperpopular. In fact, I encourage it LOL

To be honest, non of these pokemon were picked for strength. More for design or they have some sort of back story. XD
