  Mathieu is hard to understand at first. He won't talk openly to anyone (mostly because he has severe trust issues), and if you ask private questions he might very well lie to you and lead you on, just for the sake of it being funny. He likes to joke around and use people, too, so the best behavoir would be to be carefull around him. He may seem nice and interested in you and your stories, but really most of the time he does not care. He just happens to be a good actor.
He learned to be charismatic enough to make you trust him, which is something that you shouldn't do. He stands straight and gives lotsa smiles to anyone : ) !
  Although, this is of course a facade. He used to be very fragile, and even if he thinks he got better at handling his emotions, that might not be so true. He has a big heart and will do anything for people he adores, even sacrifying himself if it could save their life.
  Becoming his friend is a tricky process, as you need to keep him from lying and approach him slowly. It takes time and effort, but his friendship is golden.
  He has a pretty high esteem of himself, and is confident about his capacities. The only thing he hates about his person is his past and most of his previous decisions. If he could see a past version of himself, he'd punch it real good.
  He Loves a good fight and burning off energy ! When he hasn't done it for a while he'll probably act even more arrogant and be an annoying ass. Most likely because he wants to start a fight.
He always strives to be the best (while following his own definition of "being the best"), and will get really mad at himself for any mistake he does.
Mathieu, while understanding and relating to other's pains and troubles, will not actually care about it. He knows that his lying habbit and overall awefull behavior probably hurts them, and would hate anyone like himself, but even though, he manages to stay the same douchebag ( Because that's how he had always acted and survived through schools and life in general ) :

History:

- His Mom and dad had a happy wedding
In a loving relationship, they decided to found a family together.
They originated from a french family and teached their kids both english and french.
- Dad suffers from BPD and depression
He used to selfharm to cope, and even thaugh they always explained to their kids that it was not something normal to do, Mathieu had problems seeing his dad as someone "not normal".
- Firstborn of the family, his parents had lots of hope for him
Their expectation became even bigger as he grew up strong. He quickly learned new move and had an amazing attack. He seemed like a gifted child.
- They had two more childrens
( 3 and 4 years younger )
They, in opposition to him didn't seem as strong, probably because they were so much younger and that their parents were expecting a lot too much from them.

- Dad got attached to him and gave him everything he wanted, Mom had no saying in this
His dad was The Man™, and his wife's opinion, while heard, were never important to him.
Indeed, even though he did love her, both of them had been raised in thinking that the husband was the only one of the family that had to take the decisions. To them, the wife just didn't have a saying in this, and Mathieu's father got so attached to him that his relationship with his lover became deplorable. He only had eyes for his strongest son, spending all of his time either with him or at work. His mom on the other hand, felt as what she thought didn't matter at all. Her husband's hapiness was the most important. She had known him for a long time, and knew that both his mental illnesses and life had been hard on him. She was glad that he had found something that made him happy, and decided to let it be that way.

His dad saw himself in Mathieu and started to train him very early on ( soon after he turned 1, they were already developping his muscles ! ).
- He grew up very spoiled while his siblings were neglected
Being adored by his father, he got everything he could ask for. His family was far from being poor, and he got nice clothes, toys, candies ... Anything to please him. He enjoyed it a bit too much, because he got to brag at school and in front of his sister and brother. He didn't see any injustice in him being superior. He deserved all of this, because he was strong.
At least that's what he thougt, not seeing the hard work and sadness of his sibling as they were desesperatly trying to please their dad.
- His mom and siblings hated him, without blaming his dad at all
His dad, having mental illnesses, and them not really understanding those, was completly free from any complaint. To their eyes, the one being selfish was Mathieu. He was the only one who was actually interacting with their dad, as he kept being with him and being distant to them. He could have talked to him, explained him what he did was wrong. But he didn't. He kept enjoying his priviledges and let them suffer. That's what they thought.
Mathieu, on another hand, was far from imagining how bad their situation was. He was just a child having fun with his dad, nagging his annoying little sister and brother. And his mom was just ... Here. To keep the house and make them food. Isn't what a mom is supposed to do ?
- Dad kills himself, leaving Mathieu in a hating familly
This was an unexpected event.
His family knew that it had been years he stuggeled with depression, but they never understood it. His mom was the only one who was a little bit informed, but it wasn't enough.
Their dad never attended any medical care, he had always been struggling with this in his own way. And taking his life seemed to be the best treatment he found.
That's how Mathieu saw it anyways. His dad couldn't be wrong. His mom couldn't be wright ...
But even if he convinced himself this was for the better, the death of his father was heartbreaking. He was the closest person he ever had, and this had always been like that. Nobody could replace him.
- He became the neglected child and started coping with selfharm
Being left alone without his dad to protect him, the rest of his family could finally be free, and drown Mat in their anger.
Her mom found rather quickly another husband. He was never home, nearly always at work. He was more of a roomate than anything else to Mathieu. He was bringing back money and he was sure that that was all his mom cared about ...
From here things went down the rabbit hole.
He slowly loosed everything to his mom and siblings. It started with unimportant things like his toys or any priviledge. For a short period of time they were all kind of equal.
But unfortunatly, they didn't stop there. Her mom decided that anything he owned could be used by them. And eventually, they never returned anything back. It was a lot of fun for them, but being taken everything away from him and loosing his father was awefully painfull to Mathieu.
As time passed, they kept being more and more crual. He didn't eat as much as them, and couldn't do anything.
This situation was extremly painful to him as he was completly alone. Eventually he remembered his dad's habbit to cut, and started it too.
It quickly became his n°1 way to cope, as it also made him remember of his dad.

- He was pretty popular at school, where he learned to lie and use others
School was the only place where he was still confident and full of himself. Being far from his mother, he could run the playground however he liked. He learned to please people to be liked, and get things from them. The time he could get snacks or toys from his "friends" were the absolute best, because it reminded him of when his dad gave him anything he wanted.
He didn't care if what he did was reasonable, pity was useless to him.
- He never really opened up himself to anyone and rather made up stupid lies to seem interesting
Lying was his thing. His friends didn't need to know anything about his situation. Why would they even want to, when he could make up amazing stories about his dream life. Those made him even more popular, and he became very good at lying.
Here again, he had no regrets in doing so. Why would he ?
- He had a lot of friend, but didn't really liked any of them, at the exeption of Helios, who wasn't in his school.
They met in town and quickly got along ! Helios was an arcanine with a very cool and interesting culture ! He loved to talk to him even though he never knew if what he said were truth or lies.
Each time he was coming back to town he got very excited to talk to him !
But these were rare occasions and he was mostly not around people he liked.

- At 9 Moni came into their school ! It was a furfrou boy, with which he became friend
This furfrou caught his interest because of many things, but mainly, he seemed different. He didn't care if Mathieu was popular and had a good reputation, he talked to him as equal. He was hard to impres and actually gave a very respectable vibe.
At first Mat ignored him, thinking he was just some nerd. But one day the furfrou went to the school with a fake wood sword that could pop out of his wrist ! That really impressed Mathieu, who immediatly wanted to know more about it.
Moni was able to catch his interest thanks to his creations, and neutrality.
- Their friendship grew bigger everyday, and they soon were inseparable. They shared everything.
As a cringy kid, Mathieu always reffered to him as his "true brother", the one he was glad to have and wouldn't trade for anything.
Their friendship tightened over the fact that Moni liked to create stuff and Mat loved to help with it. It was a manual thing , and it felt amazing to work together and create an actual finished thing.
Moni and him were the bestest of friends !
- his family situation became worse over the years, to the point where he, a 11 year old boy, had to feed himself, didn't have a room, and basically didn't interact with his parents at all
He felt completly abandonned by his family, and didn't understand their actions. Did he really deserve that ? Why did they still hate him after all this years ? There had to be something more he was missing.
But he never found out. All he knew is that the place he used to call "Home" was now habited by crual monsters whos only purpose was to hurt him. He didn't want to have anything to do with them, and everytime he had to think of them it'd end up with him crying himself to sleep.
Why were they like this ...
- He spent most of his time outside or at Moni's house, sleeping there almost every night
Moni lived alone with his mom, who was the most amazing mom ever. She'd cook amazing recipies at almost every meal and gave her best at being a good mom. Mathieu loved to come at her house because she would treat him as her own kid too, calling him by sweet names, hugging him, and helping him with anything he'd need.
He knew that she was usually a sweet caring person, so being treated that way wasn't really surprising. Although her affection for him seemed to grew to an unimaginable extend when he told her about the situation with his family. She immediatly started to do everything to help him, even speaking with his mom a fiew times.
Unfortunatly her efforts were unsuccesfull.
But Moni's mom wasn't really the most important. The most important was Moni himself !!! When he wasn't in the hellhole that was his home, he always went either outside or at Moni's, because Moni was the best friend ever ! Together they would play anything they liked, create awesome mechanism or objects, and draw a lot.
When he was outside, it was to hang out with anyone who wished to (mostly kids). He liked meeting new people, even though he knew that this was kind of dangerous. He didn't care for his life at all.

-Moni's mom and her son were about to move out to Saphire Port, so they, together with Mat, took the decision to take him with them.
The idea came to them as an evidence when Moni's mom had to move out for her job. Leaving Mathieu behind felt like abandoning her second son.
She had warned him before that they may leave one day, and it was something that Matheu hated to hear.
Two month before they actually left, they had a talk with him about what would happen. Mathieu had a hard time explaining them how desesperate he actually was, that they just couldn't leave him behind. He wanted to stay with them at all cost, since they were all he had. They knew he was probably right, and took the decision to take him with them.
Although this was a big deal for Moni's mother, as she had to accept taking a child with her far away, without the consent of his parents. But the more they talked about the situation, the clearer it got. Mathieu probably risked to die a thousand times already, if it were not for them, Mat would probably not even be alive today. Leaving their child basically live by himself was already an abandonment in itself.
She had beed taking care of him for a really long time now, and it basically went from "some night spent at her house to play with her son", to, slowly, over the past years, having him around almost every day and nights. She had always wanted to help him in everyway she could, knowing about his situation.
It just felt like she was adopting or saving him for good this time.
A month later, they were aboard a ship heading for Saphire Port.

-His family declared him dead while his new family stuggled with declaring him as found to adopt him
They learned through one of Moni's mom's friend who still lived in Everstone that Mathieu's family had declared him dead, which wasn't much of a surprise, but still a relief.
They waited about a year before starting the procedure to adopt him, using the lie that he was an orphened homeless kid that she had been helping, which wasn't entirely false.
Mathieu didn't think much of it, to him this was just paper work, and his family was clearly with Moni, now.
- In the end, they managed to legally adopt him, but Moni's mom never got any financial help
The procedure took years to be done, and by the time she could get financial help for her adopted son, he wasn't a minor anymore.
This meant that for all the time they lived together, Mathieu's new family only had so little money. It was a single mom raising two childrens by herself while working like crazy to be able to feed them.
Being in a bigger town, the kids did all sorts of tiny jobs to help around and get some money too. It was mostly because they liked to do it that she let them do it.
- His new family was pretty poor, they skipped some meals and couldn't afford most things, but Mathieu was happy !
All of the years he had been living, these were the best ones. They did struggle a lot, but it was their only real problem. Mathieu was finally in a good family, surrounded by the two people he loved the most. His mom and his best friend.
They spent their time doing a lot of different jobs and learning life, playing games and being teenagers. It was amazing. Hard, but amazing.
- He managed to completly stop cutting around 17, which was very challenging but rewarding !
Even though his life wasn't perfect, he didn't feel the need to cope as much as before. Only thing that made him go on was the addiction.
With time, courage and support, he mannaged to completly stop it.

- Him and Moni worked together to create objects they then sold. This helped a lot with the money issues they were having.
Moni and him had always teamed up to make cool stuff, mainly in the goal to impress others, so when they started to lack money, they took the decision to sell their work to passants, or by doing doors to doors. They even had their little reputation in the town for a while.
- Unfortunatly, their buisness got caught up by a group of other older teens, which resulted into a lot of fights.
This kept going on for years, so Moni and him learned to fight.
The city they were in was pretty big, and groups of bad boys fighting seemed less common then you would think.
The first time they got attacked by some other group, Both of them were able to defend themselves thanks to Moni's good natural defence and Mat's old fighting skills, but it was a close one.
They got a warning and knew that this would happen again, so they started to train. Which wasn't a so good idea, because since they started to fight back, they got completly caught up between all of the different groups and their fights. Eventually, they happened to fight in a weekly basis.
It was wild, and they tried to stop it multiple times, but never managed to be completly free from it. Some guys would always come back to get their revenge, and fights never really ended.

- As they grew up, Moni's inventor skills became even greater, and they actually got a lot of proffit from it. But not enough.
They wanted to open a real shop and actually work there full time.
it was a project they had since they were very young, and the money they had been collecting was finally enough to start it. They planned everythng, Moni's mom was ready to handle the cash and stocks, Mathieu was going to handle the comunication part, bring in clients, make adds and participate in anything that could help them grow a reputation, and of course Moni would build the stuff.
It seemed like a lot of work, but he was ready to do it.
-The disaster hit, and they losed their home and the soon to be shop
Their mom got badly hurt as their house broke down under the floods and was sent to the nearest working hospital, which was heartbreaking for her two childs. Seeing her in so much pain, all of the lower part of her body imobilized, was traumatizing. But what was even more traumatizing was the freaking meteor fall that destroyed the town. Mathieu would never have been ready to see this, and even if he didn't believe in legendaries, this was far from usual.
He couldn't explain it, and that was the scariest part.
-Their mom affirmed that she could take care of herself while the two boys looked for a new way to get money, leading them to the guild.
Their mom, having been send away to an hopital near Everstone, and both their home and shop having been destroyed, they took one of the only ship that functioned at the time to join Everstone. They didn't have anything left in Saphire port but troubles with gangs, so they, without a doubt, went to where their mom got sent.
Fighting ferals and exploring new dangerous places seemed pretty easy. They were just hoping they could make enough money, and maybe sell some of their stuff over there while at it.
The only thing that made him anxious about coming back to his hometown, Everstone, was his mom and/or siblings that might still be here ...
Well, that was if they even recognised or care about him.
If they were still there, he was definitly ready to face them.
Or at least he felt like he was.

Extras:

When he was a child he used to inflate his buoy before falling asleep because he was scarred vampires would come suck his blood.
He loves to cuddle ... He loves hugs ...... Please hug him
He is very pround of Moni and will do anything for him. His bro is the best.

  One time when he was around 12 he did a summer job in the feilds to get Poke's and give them to Moni's mom. He knew she deserved the money, since she was pretty poor and had to take care of him too.

Her mom found rather quickly another husband. He was never home, nearly always at work. He was more of a roomate than anything else to Mathieu. He was bringing back money and he was sure that that was all his mom cared about ...
From here things went down the rabbit hole.
He slowly loosed everything to his mom and siblings. It started with unimportant things like his toys or any priviledge. For a short period of time they were all kind of equal.
But unfortunatly, they didn't stop there. Her mom decided that anything he owned could be used by them. And eventually, they never returned anything back. It was a lot of fun for them, but being taken everything away from him and loosing his father was awefully painfull to Mathieu.
As time passed, they kept being more and more crual. He didn't eat as much as them, and couldn't do anything.
This situation was extremly painful to him as he was completly alone. Eventually he remembered his dad's habbit to cut, and started it too.
It quickly became his n°1 way to cope, as it also made him remember of his dad.

- He was pretty popular at school, where he learned to lie and use others
School was the only place where he was still confident and full of himself. Being far from his mother, he could run the playground however he liked. He learned to please people to be liked, and get things from them. The time he could get snacks or toys from his "friends" were the absolute best, because it reminded him of when his dad gave him anything he wanted.
He didn't care if what he did was reasonable, pity was useless to him.
- He never really opened up himself to anyone and rather made up stupid lies to seem interesting
Lying was his thing. His friends didn't need to know anything about his situation. Why would they even want to, when he could make up amazing stories about his dream life. Those made him even more popular, and he became very good at lying.
Here again, he had no regrets in doing so. Why would he ?
- He had a lot of friend, but didn't really liked any of them, at the exeption of Helios, who wasn't in his school.
They met in town and quickly got along ! Helios was an arcanine with a very cool and interesting culture ! He loved to talk to him even though he never knew if what he said were truth or lies.
Each time he was coming back to town he got very excited to talk to him !
But these were rare occasions and he was mostly not around people he liked.

- At 9 Moni came into their school ! It was a furfrou boy, with which he became friend
This furfrou caught his interest because of many things, but mainly, he seemed different. He didn't care if Mathieu was popular and had a good reputation, he talked to him as equal. He was hard to impres and actually gave a very respectable vibe.
At first Mat ignored him, thinking he was just some nerd. But one day the furfrou went to the school with a fake wood sword that could pop out of his wrist ! That really impressed Mathieu, who immediatly wanted to know more about it.
Moni was able to catch his interest thanks to his creations, and neutrality.
- Their friendship grew bigger everyday, and they soon were inseparable. They shared everything.
As a cringy kid, Mathieu always reffered to him as his "true brother", the one he was glad to have and wouldn't trade for anything.
Their friendship tightened over the fact that Moni liked to create stuff and Mat loved to help with it. It was a manual thing , and it felt amazing to work together and create an actual finished thing.
Moni and him were the bestest of friends !
- his family situation became worse over the years, to the point where he, a 11 year old boy, had to feed himself, didn't have a room, and basically didn't interact with his parents at all
He felt completly abandonned by his family, and didn't understand their actions. Did he really deserve that ? Why did they still hate him after all this years ? There had to be something more he was missing.
But he never found out. All he knew is that the place he used to call "Home" was now habited by crual monsters whos only purpose was to hurt him. He didn't want to have anything to do with them, and everytime he had to think of them it'd end up with him crying himself to sleep.
Why were they like this ...
- He spent most of his time outside or at Moni's house, sleeping there almost every night
Moni lived alone with his mom, who was the most amazing mom ever. She'd cook amazing recipies at almost every meal and gave her best at being a good mom. Mathieu loved to come at her house because she would treat him as her own kid too, calling him by sweet names, hugging him, and helping him with anything he'd need.
He knew that she was usually a sweet caring person, so being treated that way wasn't really surprising. Although her affection for him seemed to grew to an unimaginable extend when he told her about the situation with his family. She immediatly started to do everything to help him, even speaking with his mom a fiew times.
Unfortunatly her efforts were unsuccesfull.
But Moni's mom wasn't really the most important. The most important was Moni himself !!! When he wasn't in the hellhole that was his home, he always went either outside or at Moni's, because Moni was the best friend ever ! Together they would play anything they liked, create awesome mechanism or objects, and draw a lot.
When he was outside, it was to hang out with anyone who wished to (mostly kids). He liked meeting new people, even though he knew that this was kind of dangerous. He didn't care for his life at all.

-Moni's mom and her son were about to move out to Saphire Port, so they, together with Mat, took the decision to take him with them.
The idea came to them as an evidence when Moni's mom had to move out for her job. Leaving Mathieu behind felt like abandoning her second son.
She had warned him before that they may leave one day, and it was something that Matheu hated to hear.
Two month before they actually left, they had a talk with him about what would happen. Mathieu had a hard time explaining them how desesperate he actually was, that they just couldn't leave him behind. He wanted to stay with them at all cost, since they were all he had. They knew he was probably right, and took the decision to take him with them.
Although this was a big deal for Moni's mother, as she had to accept taking a child with her far away, without the consent of his parents. But the more they talked about the situation, the clearer it got. Mathieu probably risked to die a thousand times already, if it were not for them, Mat would probably not even be alive today. Leaving their child basically live by himself was already an abandonment in itself.
She had beed taking care of him for a really long time now, and it basically went from "some night spent at her house to play with her son", to, slowly, over the past years, having him around almost every day and nights. She had always wanted to help him in everyway she could, knowing about his situation.
It just felt like she was adopting or saving him for good this time.
A month later, they were aboard a ship heading for Saphire Port.

-His family declared him dead while his new family stuggled with declaring him as found to adopt him
They learned through one of Moni's mom's friend who still lived in Everstone that Mathieu's family had declared him dead, which wasn't much of a surprise, but still a relief.
They waited about a year before starting the procedure to adopt him, using the lie that he was an orphened homeless kid that she had been helping, which wasn't entirely false.
Mathieu didn't think much of it, to him this was just paper work, and his family was clearly with Moni, now.
- In the end, they managed to legally adopt him, but Moni's mom never got any financial help
The procedure took years to be done, and by the time she could get financial help for her adopted son, he wasn't a minor anymore.
This meant that for all the time they lived together, Mathieu's new family only had so little money. It was a single mom raising two childrens by herself while working like crazy to be able to feed them.
Being in a bigger town, the kids did all sorts of tiny jobs to help around and get some money too. It was mostly because they liked to do it that she let them do it.
- His new family was pretty poor, they skipped some meals and couldn't afford most things, but Mathieu was happy !
All of the years he had been living, these were the best ones. They did struggle a lot, but it was their only real problem. Mathieu was finally in a good family, surrounded by the two people he loved the most. His mom and his best friend.
They spent their time doing a lot of different jobs and learning life, playing games and being teenagers. It was amazing. Hard, but amazing.
- He managed to completly stop cutting around 17, which was very challenging but rewarding !
Even though his life wasn't perfect, he didn't feel the need to cope as much as before. Only thing that made him go on was the addiction.
With time, courage and support, he mannaged to completly stop it.

- Him and Moni worked together to create objects they then sold. This helped a lot with the money issues they were having.
Moni and him had always teamed up to make cool stuff, mainly in the goal to impress others, so when they started to lack money, they took the decision to sell their work to passants, or by doing doors to doors. They even had their little reputation in the town for a while.
- Unfortunatly, their buisness got caught up by a group of other older teens, which resulted into a lot of fights.
This kept going on for years, so Moni and him learned to fight.
The city they were in was pretty big, and groups of bad boys fighting seemed less common then you would think.
The first time they got attacked by some other group, Both of them were able to defend themselves thanks to Moni's good natural defence and Mat's old fighting skills, but it was a close one.
They got a warning and knew that this would happen again, so they started to train. Which wasn't a so good idea, because since they started to fight back, they got completly caught up between all of the different groups and their fights. Eventually, they happened to fight in a weekly basis.
It was wild, and they tried to stop it multiple times, but never managed to be completly free from it. Some guys would always come back to get their revenge, and fights never really ended.

- As they grew up, Moni's inventor skills became even greater, and they actually got a lot of proffit from it. But not enough.
They wanted to open a real shop and actually work there full time.
it was a project they had since they were very young, and the money they had been collecting was finally enough to start it. They planned everythng, Moni's mom was ready to handle the cash and stocks, Mathieu was going to handle the comunication part, bring in clients, make adds and participate in anything that could help them grow a reputation, and of course Moni would build the stuff.
It seemed like a lot of work, but he was ready to do it.
-The disaster hit, and they losed their home and the soon to be shop
Their mom got badly hurt as their house broke down under the floods and was sent to the nearest working hospital, which was heartbreaking for her two childs. Seeing her in so much pain, all of the lower part of her body imobilized, was traumatizing. But what was even more traumatizing was the freaking meteor fall that destroyed the town. Mathieu would never have been ready to see this, and even if he didn't believe in legendaries, this was far from usual.
He couldn't explain it, and that was the scariest part.
-Their mom affirmed that she could take care of herself while the two boys looked for a new way to get money, leading them to the guild.
Their mom, having been send away to an hopital near Everstone, and both their home and shop having been destroyed, they took one of the only ship that functioned at the time to join Everstone. They didn't have anything left in Saphire port but troubles with gangs, so they, without a doubt, went to where their mom got sent.
Fighting ferals and exploring new dangerous places seemed pretty easy. They were just hoping they could make enough money, and maybe sell some of their stuff over there while at it.
The only thing that made him anxious about coming back to his hometown, Everstone, was his mom and/or siblings that might still be here ...
Well, that was if they even recognised or care about him.
If they were still there, he was definitly ready to face them.
Or at least he felt like he was.

  One time when he was around 12 he did a summer job in the feilds to get Poke's and give them to Moni's mom. He knew she deserved the money, since she was pretty poor and had to take care of him too.
