I always though that (Lucas was an ignoramus and a hack) *ahem* Han was a bit of a rube who didn't know that much about space travel and got snookered in a bet with Lando. Lando fed him a line or two about how great that hunk of junk was and Han didn't know enough to know Lando was ripping him off.

Possibly, but I think Lando also still cared for the Falcon, or whatever. I can't remember the story behind Han getting it, but I think Lando did it grudgingly. Something along those lines.
Anyway, these days Lucas is definitely a hack. Remaking his classic movies is not helping his "legacy". Someone made a joke in a youtube abridged movie, "Hey, I'm here ta fuck up you movies", parodying George Lucas. I found it fitting.
