Description ACRYLIC based GOUACHE, ACRYLICS & INDIA INK on canvas. Size: 12" X 16" ... Finished in Los Angeles, 11/29/2005

ABOUT THE MATERIALS & MEDIUM: Trying the mixture of new kinds of mediums. This is 90% acrylic based gouache manufactured by Holbein ™, Japan. I also used their metallic gouache. This paint is very different than anything I've used. opaque as can be, slow drying time, (compared to acrylics) and they make the blackest black I've ever run across, (JET BLACK). You can see the unusual effects I can achieve with these paints. I have not been able to get these effects with acrylics alone.

ABOUT THE SUBJECT: Fish - Undersea creatures - The mystery of this worlds Oceans & Seas. The vast worlds beneath the planets waters fascinate and intrigue me. Also, and perhaps most important, I find the water and the animals of the water soothing. I can use all the "soothing" I can get.

you said how soothing the picture is, however the incredibly repetitive phallic symbolism pushes the idea of a chaotic sexual world into my head, and overall makes me feel like you must've been in a rough relationship situation (or at least an uncomfortable one) when you created this picture. But, i do like it

true, the animals of the sea CAN be very soothing (one of the reasons why scuba diving is so awesome)
... and they can be EXTREMEYLY frightening as well. Any time I am swimming in extremely deep water I get the feeling that there is something down there... Something I cant see... Something which is watching me... HUNGRILY... just waiting for the perfect moment... to PULL ME DOWN!!!!
This particular painting does not neccessarily target 'THAT' (however it is a great idea [HINT HINT!!]) but it seems to refer to something which is also very creepy. The idea that u are being watched... very closely... and not by ONE, but by several. It is a very disturbing and uncomfortable feeling, not soothing at all may I say. But delightfully trippy!
Great job I may say! keep up the good work!

Thank you! ~ ~ Everything is psychedelic because the state is a bridge to death. That's not a negative comment - just what I have come to understand over time.

I call everything psychedelic what makes me feel overwhealmed by strange and positive impressions at the same time. I suddenly get goosebumps and a strange feeling in the back of my head.
Feels alive...

Yes, I understand. I hope that means that death is more than life ... Like a much more powerful form of existing.

You should watch the movie "Waking Life" if you haven't yet. It gave me some valuable clues about my own imaginations to put them in words. It is a very philosophic movie with a lot of talking and a visual style you might have to get used to first. It's like a psychedelic trip. If you type "Waking Life" into the deviant search, there are some pictures that give you the idea how the movie looks like.

Simply fantastic work sir. Your visions never fail to amaze me. I'd like to think that in a parallel world you'd have your own themepark- a nightmare realm of mystery and marvels far, far from the sickly, saccharine worlds of Disney. Again, just wonderful

Thanx, the feeling is mutual friend. Its no exaggeration to say that you are one of my favourite artists period, so much so that i actually cite you as an influence on my own work. I saw one of your paintings, i think it was in a magazine, some years ago and i've admired your vision ever since. Thanx for the words man, you've actually made my night

It has a bit of still life feel with the ball in the center and the green leaves, but in total the painting invokes a sense of peace and calmness amongst a crowd of rather diverse creatures. This is what I see and I love it!

I guess you do like it ... YOU BOUGHT IT!!!! Thank you x 1,0000 ... you are a maniac!!! Man, I was so surprised when I got up this morning and saw this painting had been sold.

Honestly, I think this is one of the most interesting paintings of its ilk I've done ... I also think you will be VERY happy when you receive it. THANK YOU!!!

this is really awesome work. I keep fish at home, and I have dreams occasionally that my fish are breeding and bizzare new species are being created. a few of the creatures you have here really remind me of those dream like fish. the composition is excellent too. I love the expressions you manage to put forth in the faces of these fish...especially since fish generally aren't expressive creatures.

i love the excited colors you got with those japanese gouaches. the purple is delicious!
the creatures and composition, whatever chaos that may be, seems very positive for a change! there are some ugly faces out there, but they don't seem so bad. maybe the jap colors are good therapists.

Simply amazing --- i myself find the ocean and its creatures absolutely terrifying and at the same time wonderous and great.
I love the inhabitants here! especially the large one in the back. ...& My eye keeps wandering to the stone in the foreground...
quite mysterious.
