Description
Decided to pick this game up again after some time, being my personal all-time favorite game after all.So here we have a night-time assault with five Martian Fighting Machines attacking a Human Formidable Class Ironclad, while already being under fire by a unit of Armored Track Layers and Heavy Gun Emplacements. Yes, the Fighting Machines have received significant damage themselves; look closely and you can see the smoke and flames bellowing from them (which is the main damage indicator of all units, structures and even the environmental objects like trees, the Red Weed and houses).

I got a dare for you.
Assault enemy territory only using those kamikaze drone things.

An interesting challenge. I'll get back to you on that.

Did it: failed because buildings are not enemy vehicles.

I had better luck doing the same tactic with armored lorries: the fighting machines wiped them out even when outnumbered, but flying machines and specialist ones (minus lighting and xenotelepath obviously) ended up scrapped by my little cars. Now I will try it with track layers.

How come it's your all-time favorite? What's the game like?

It's my personal all-time favorite game as I am a big fan of The War of the Worlds in general. I have the original book from H.G. Wells, a CD containing Orson Welles' Radio Play from 1938, the movies from both 1953 and (ashamed for it) 2005 and the Musical Version by Jeff Wayne, which goes from the original 1978 album on vinyl, the 1989 double CD, the 1995 re-issue (which has 4 Bonus Tracks), the 2007 Collectors Edition, a record of the 2009 tour, The New Generation album, two Live On Stage recordings (One on DVD and a New Generation one on Blu-Ray, a Fighting Machine USB-stick and this game from 1998. I also went to see the album performed live when they toured in The Netherlands, which I both massively enjoyed with my parents.
As for this game, this is a Real-Time Strategy game where,Β instead of having pre-set missions, battles only take place when one sides' forces are sent to a sector occupied by the other. Unit building and the inter-sector movement of forces are done between battles. All units and all are 3D Models instead of sprites and you can play as either the defending Humans or the invading Martians. You can lose a battle and still win the war.Β

Ah right I see, nice. It's fun to be a huge fan of something. For instance I got the complete Dragon Ball manga several years ago and it's like a gold mine to me, all that gorgeous artwork from Akira Toriyama himself.

I only have a few manga books from Dragonball. I do wish I had more...
