Description
Both Tempest and Xeno watch in utter silence as Shirase Kobuchizawa opens up the laptop that was recovered from a station in Antarctica, while her friends Mari Tamaki, Hinata Miyake and Yuzuki Shiraishi all sit and wait outside, giving her the privacy to look into it herself. Xeno was already feeling some tears swelling up as Tempest had an arm around her, with him being more composed for now, as they watch Shirase getting to the login screen, her initial password attempt failing, but trying a different password after looking at the photo of herself and her missing mother Takako on the back of the laptop, which interestingly gave her access and let her log into the laptop.

The couple watched as Shirase opened the e-mail program... which began to retrieve the e-mails as initially expected... only for the couple to gasp as the e-mails that Shirase had sent to her mother began to pop up... all unread...

Xeno, already tearing up, was watching this with clenched teeth, her breathing getting a bit more hasty as the e-mails kept on coming in, soon entering the hundreds, with Tempest's hold on her getting a bit tighter as if he understood, and he too began to tear up as well, as if it sparked memories within the both of them, as it made them think of their own families... Xeno having lost her own mother and younger siblings, and Tempest being estranged from his own parents after the whole ordeal with Cell and his subsequent first meeting with the Martians... when the e-mails went over the thousands, they realized what Shirase realized... but what finally broke that dam that built up within them, that caused Xeno to roll into her husband's embrace and crying bitter tears into his chest, while Tempest cried along with his beloved wife as he held her tightly against him... was only one word... a shrilled, agonizing outcry from Shirase herself...

"OKA-SAN!! OKA-SAAAAAAAAAN!!" ("MOM!! MOOOOOOOOM!!")

That and seeing Mari, Hinata and Yuzuki crying along with Shirase is what burst the dam within the couple, as if they understood Shirase's pain and sorrow, and like with her three friends outside her room, shared in that grief.

I haven't drawn much in a while, thanks to a huge art block, but I'm gradually getting back in the swing of things. And the first thing that came into mind was my OCs Tempest and Xeno sharing in sorrow together, as Xeno is in the embrace of her beloved Tempest, crying bitter tears, while Tempest just holds her close and cries along with her.

The main inspiration for this drawing is what is, in my opinion, arguably the most heart-breaking scene I've seen in an anime: the 'Unread E-mails' scene from Episode 12 of 'A Place Further Than The Universe' (Sora Yori mo Tooi Basho).

Coupled with the song, 'Mata ne', that plays during the scene made it so powerful, so much so that it even brought me personally to tears when I first watched that scene. And it still does every single time I watched it after that.
