Description
So after a few days of thinking, drawing, planning, rethinking, and redrawing, I've finally finished this costume concept.

When it comes to costumes, particularly MLP:FiM and Brony costumes, I like pick out background characters. It's much less common to see such a costume, and that normally sparks a bunch of fangasms and excitement from people who set eyes on it.
And I like that.
I admit, I'm pretty...insufficient... with staying in-character with one that has known lines, or what have you (I even had a little trouble being 10th Doctor/Doctor Whooves, otz); background characters just have to stand around, line-less-ly, to be awesome.

Anyways, I've always wanted to do one of the guards from the show. And with this whole thing of the Solar Empire VS the New Lunar Republic, how would I ~NOT pick one of Luna's Royal Guard! Luna is best pony

I tell you, what a fun challenge it was converting armor of a cartoon equine character to a usable humanoid costume concept! I tried being as original as I could while still retaining most of the design from the show, and I think I've been successful in that so far.

This is by no means the final version of the concept, but the plan is this:

+Dark gray fabric shirt and pants.
+Gray fabric tunic.
+Fabric blue cape(s) with designed clips

+The armor parts are going to be cut and molded from plastic totes or sintra plastic, which will be detailed with paint and weathered.
Held together with snaps and straps.

+Detachable wings made from black/blue mesh on a wire and clicking mechanism that will allow them to open (for poses and photos) and close (for travel and general-everything-else).

+No idea yet about the helmet...

Other Features
+Segmented chest plate, thighs, and helmet (neck) to allow for full range of movement.

Not Shown:
+Boot covers/spats
+New Lunar Republic Halberd weapon

Ideas/To do's:
+Design back shin armor and bracers?
+Redesign thigh armor?
+Redesign/add design to cape?
+Re-evaluate all the Luna/Nightmare Moon/NLR icons and insignias?

Despite how it looks, it isn't too terribly complicated to make; I'm doing to see if i can make finish for Nightmare Night Halloween this year. But I plan for its main debut to be at Phoenic Comic Con 2013 in May.

Let's hope I can do it!

On a side note, I think more people should make/be Solar and Lunar Guards; there's so few! I can imagine mini armies of guards following Celestia and Luna cosplayers, and help portray the idea of the armies against Discord or Chrysalis and the like. Or, even more entertaining, the fandom idea of the Solar Empire VS the New Lunar Republic.

One of the more notable Lunar Guard cosplayers also the only one I found is .
