Description I am one of the artists against the aerial gunnings of the wolves. I want to stop all this in Alaska, and in any other states that this is happening. I hope that this will draw attention from somebody out there! If you wanna draw something like this PLEASE note Straywolf59 [link]

-------------------------------------
I'm semi-happy with this picture. The only thing I can really compilan about is the sky, but that's what happens when you let your friend from English class 'help' you color.

Sorry about the late response DX
Yes, I agree, that is a pain in the ass to have to replace any sort of livestock because of wolves (or coyotes, cougars, or whatever) that saw them as easy prey & took them. I honestly understand that & agree that they should be able to protect their livestock (especially when it's their sorce of income).
I just don't agree with ariel hunting of any animal (not just wolves) is all.

I find this practice horrifying. My sister is writing about this for her NHD project. I'll have to show her this. I might even draw something similar myself. I can't stand how people can justify killing anything, much less such beautiful and amazing creatures.

RubbaliteWolf In reply to AwesomeLurker [2011-05-26 05:34:52 +0000 UTC]

Sorry about the very late responce DX
Wolves, like all predators, do help balance out the ecosystem by making sure that the population of various prey(especially herbivores)doesn't get too high which in turn helps keep vegetation pretty well managed & sustainable.
That could be taken as one reason to care. But, I'm not gonna force you or anyone else to care about wolves if you don't want to (it doesn't help that they're 'not endangered' anymore & there's tons of draws of them here on da).
To be very honest, yes, I still like wolves, but I'm not as big of a wolf nut that I was when I drew this over 3 years ago & really the thing that bothered me was the aerial hunting part.

They only attack because they are starving and hunters are killing all their prey just for the horns or the heads, And they say they are savage, also because people are moving in their territory and homes, I just wish they would stop hunting all animals. Love the picture by the way

I really like this pic!

The simplicity is nice and gets the message across well. I don't mind the texture in the sky, I thought it was on purpose... you know clouds ^_^ because clouds are ominous.

The only thing I'd change is the expression on the wolf running forward... she looks very happy

Maybe show some whites in the eyes or some alarmed eyebrows?

Try it on a print out of this scan so u don't wreck the original though! That would be very sad!

I got so sad when I saw this picture it reminds me how cruel we are... humans think that they can take control of everything though God wanted us to take care of the living beings on earth not destroy them. This makes me so sad, but I agree with it whole-heartedly. I just saw a short video over aerial wolf killing, and I never stopped to wonder why I hate humanity so much. -_- I don't care what kind of excuse people can come up with (any story of a healthy wolf attacking a human is just made up). The people who use anything as an excuse to shoot a defenseless animal are just trying to justify something that makes them feel powerful. *enough ranting* I'm really tempted to make a picture like this now ...

in my point of view, unless the wolf has a gun and can somehow shoot it, any hunting of wolves is not fair, right, or humane. It should not be counted as a "sport", since what kind of challenge is it to end a poor innocent creature's life with a gun, which is painful and inhumane.

Sthenno In reply to Silverwind-fox-wolf [2009-04-09 07:05:32 +0000 UTC]

What about thinning out population? Sure, people are prejudiced and kill wolves only because they're scared. Well...in Finland every now and then we've got small packs of trouble making wolves who kill dogs. Obviously the owners/other dog owners aren't very pleased about that and they (wolves) are usually killed soon, legally. These troublemakers aren't going to change their ways so the only reasonable way to deal with the situation. Do you think it's wrong too?
I think it can be hard for people who don't live in an area populated by wolves to undrestand that wolves can cause real problems. Now these guys aren't scared of wolves for themselves but for their four-legged friends, dogs or deers.

I don't live in that kind of area, though, and I do like wolves.

Silverwind-fox-wolf In reply to Sthenno [2009-04-09 21:15:17 +0000 UTC]

Usually, the population of wolves in any one area is thin to begin with, so what point do you need to thin out a already thin population? It will usually just lead to a population of 0. And, as I siad before, most people look for an excuse to kill wolves. When the Bush adminastration (the most stupid idiot president the world will ever know...GRRRRR I hate his guts....*ahem, sorry, this is just my opinion) removed wolves from the endangered species list(that includes their protection as well) peopel went out and had a huntign spree. By the end of that month, at least 30% of the populatin in one state had been killed. IN ONE MONTH. Sure, there may be situations like yours where it might be the only choice, but there are enough opinionated idiots out there to whipe out the wolf popualtion as we know it. (in Europe, wolf hunting was so drastic that be the Reniassance there were no wolves at all there anymore by that time)Because of the magority of the population believes this, whyu not eliminate the chance of unfair killings at all by getting rid of the oppurtinity all together? At least for Ariel Wolf Hunting. It is a sick practice, not a population control tool. (By the way, thjis is usually how it goes: A wolf is found, and run down over sevral miles form a low-flyign air craft. After the wolf is too exhausted to run, it is shot, where it usually does not die imediatly, but slowly by bleeding to death. THEN they will go and kill the rest of it's pack, and if any, the pups. Does that sound justified?Does that sound humane? And at that, they leave the corpses on the ground, whre animals will be poisened after eating the lead bullet from scavenging fromt the bodies)
Sorry for the wall 'o text btw.

Sthenno In reply to Silverwind-fox-wolf [2009-04-10 15:45:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I do know what the situation is there. And yeah, humans do like killing sprees. I used to be a "wolf-addict" so I've done some research. : D That's people being stupid. However you first said that "any hunting of wolves is not fair, right, or humane". Just thought I'd give you some other point of view.

In my opinion it's okay to kill the problem causing wolves. Also it's good to watch out the populations, look after our little planet and all that. And I also think that there are too many people and the real problem is us. But because there's no way people are going destroy a major amount of the human population (luckily, I'd rather not die that way) I guess all we can do is wait for it to thin out naturally. A few wars here and there... ¬¬

Humans are in a bad stage right now. Smart enough to create vehicles, cities, stuff that kills...but not smart enough to respect the planet that makes all that possible. Luckily a lot of people do. Too bad the leaders are often the greedy, power hungry ones that don't care.

There's some off-topic for ya. One thing leads to another... : D And no worries, wall of text..es are cool. ^^

Silverwind-fox-wolf In reply to Sthenno [2009-04-11 00:19:35 +0000 UTC]

When I first commented, I was much younger. My views have changed a bit since then. I am a pacifist, so I kinda don't approve of killing in general... I have always loved animals, so hunting in general just gets on my nerves....
I read an article today about wolf "population control" in Alaska today. They go and airiely hunt at least 300 wolves a year to try and control the predator population. They also do it to moose.(mooses? I dunno what the plural of moose is....XD)last month they killed 84 wolves for the program. But, sadly enough aldready, bounty and private hunters extend the killings to about 1000 more. So the population of wolves in that area goes down about 1300 a year. I'm not a scientist, but doesn't that seem a tad extreme? Along with that (this got my blood boiling) they will gas dens with wolf pups in there. UGGHHHHHH....it gets me sick sometimes...Alaska in general doesn't really understand that destroying wolves will disrupt the moose/deer population. Sure, there will be more, but they will be weaker, sikcer, and in general, smaller animals then if the woles had killed off the sick and weak ones.

Your right about that. In my P.E. class (THE CLASS OF HELLL...sorry,had to say it...XD)the other day, an idiot was saying how he shoots a gun he bought in his backyard at a piece of wood in his spare time. I told him that it's illegal for minors to buy a gun, and that you can't shoot anywhere but on a firing range unless you've got a permit. He started yelling about how it wasn't illegal and that his backyard doesn't apply. YAH RIGHT, KIDDO. I said that guns were stupid in general life. Every started yelling at me about how if I don't have a gun, I'll be shot at a super market one day. Yeah. I believe that.
I think the population in general is a little obsessed on violence. >.<
I'm annoyed with the world again.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sthenno In reply to Silverwind-fox-wolf [2009-04-12 14:13:56 +0000 UTC]

So whatcha think about over population? I mean I know it's not going to happen (if we don't count humans), but what if we stopped hunting and let's say moose..s (me neither .-.) started "spawn" like crazy. That'd probably cause some carnivore populations get bigger, too. And then their population would grow like crazy, too and then they'd eat and eat till there would be nothing left! D: I guess the question would be who is faster breeder. And the packs would get bigger and there would be more packs and there- ok. Enough with the chaos theory.

Anyway I think Finnish's wolf situation is alright even though there's aren't so many. But the country ain't so big either. And what comes to Alaska. Erm, how to say this. Well, if they have this ex miss as governor, who very much seems like an air head... Sure, I don't know her. But the point is that she has some unbelievable political views. I mean straight from the Stone Age. It seems like she wants to get rid of all wolves and polar bears from Alaska. And if the people wanted her to be governor...could they be much smarter? I personally don't see any fun in shooting stuff from helicopters.

Sometimes it seems like people from US live in whole different world. And don't take offence, you've got lots of cool people, too. Like you, you sound cool, smart and thoughtful enough. But your bosses....seriously.
Oh well. Guess we all have our idiots.

The gun issue..oh I love it. That sure sounds like class of Hell to me. I don't get it how people get to carry guns around. It's a lot stricker here. And after these school shooting episodes it's getting even stricker. Not sure what's happening but they were discussing about prohibiting handguns once and for all. << I think it would only annoy everyone, though. And the bloodthirsty kids will get their guns somewhere if they really want them.

And the fact that a poor shopper owns a gun ain't gonna stop anyone from shooting him/her in a supermarket. It doesn't take long to shoot someone. Hell, if the nutcase waving his gun sees a shopper reaching for HIS gun I bet he'll just get shot sooner. I'd hide, not play some gunhero. Obsessed on violence indeed.

Shouldn't talk about people's stupidity, eh? Just makes discussers lose their temper. : D

Silverwind-fox-wolf In reply to Sthenno [2009-04-13 01:49:26 +0000 UTC]

Well...nature seems to balance itself out without our help, so I suppose not intervening at all would be the best. I mean, we don't really eat deer meat, do we? Most people hunt for fun. (which makes no sense. Then again, neither does most of the world) Back when humans didn't exist, animals seemed to do fairly well keeping a balance of nature. If the deer population got to big, the predators increased. When the predator population got to big, the deer population went down. That kinda stuffs.
I don't like Palin at all. I hate her guts. Shes a leader leading general idiots (shes a fricken red-neck!*once again, a personal opinion) Not all people from Alaska are bad, but people who destroy nature seem to settle in nature-y places. really a sad truth.
Oh, I totally agree with you. I hate America! It's a greedy, capitalistic country with idiots in charge. I would LOVE to move to where you live! Less idiots, less pollution.(and I live in Los Angelos, the worst place for that crap!)Everything is based on the rich man, not the poor. (Trickle down economics, an idiot theory in it's own)UGHHHHHH. Chaaww, thanks. You have a good head on your shoulders yourself. Sometimes I think that you can only talk truthfully about a place with someone who doesn't live there. People in the south are rabid about "American Pride." And don't get me started on the religious crap I get. (for being an atheist, of course...>.< ) People here won't listen to what they don't want to hear.
Ughh...guns guns guns....I want to stop hearing about guns. I just think kids are crazy right now...a my school people throw smoke bombs, spit down the stair well, mass cheating scandles....a couple of SIXTH GRADERS were discovered having SEX on the grassy area. Last week there was an ambulance parked outside the school and the paramedics were in the nurses office...>.< I'm sick of it.
Your right. We shoot? just hide in the cookie department. If you wait longer than a day, just live off of Oreo's. XD
Yah...I should stop now.XD

It really is sad that people think that this is the only solution to a 'roblem' with the wolves population. People need to learn to share the game and respect what they kill, not act like selfish children. Wolves do it to survive, as well as some people who live way out in Alaska. But those people are more likely to respect the land, and not be so wasteful as the people who live closer togather and have ways of eating. Its those selfish people who should not be able to hunt wolves, or any other animals in the first place. They have other means of survival, in the end its nothing more than a mere trophey after a one sided game.
I've been fighting several people for months over this, its kind of sad that they think that way, that killing is the only solution. -x-
