Description
There aren't a lot of songs that I can recall the first time I heard them, but this is the only exception.I was sitting in my basement watching tv and flipping through the channels, when this music video came during the credits of some show. Something about the song struck me and I ran up stairs to my computer to look it up on itunes.
It ended up being "Famous Last Words" by My Chemical Romance. The more I listened to it, the more I could relate to its lyrics "I am not afraid to walk this world alone." I was going through this rough period of my life, where I constantly felt lonely and this song really helped me to keep going on strong. It helped me believe that there was something better ahead and that it was ok feel lonely, that I wasn't the only person who felt lonely.
I also interpreted it as "It's ok to stray from the crowd and be different", which is something that can make you lonely but ultimately helps you become a stronger person.
Recently, I went to a My Chemical Romance concert with my friends. It's been quite a few years since I first heard "Famous Last Words" and my life has changed drastically for the better. I no longer feel lonely and now have friends that I can truly trust in and believe in, who equally believe in me. I went into the concert, not expecting them to play "Famous Last Words" and to focus more on their new material from the Danger Days album. So I was shocked when they started playing "Famous Last Words"...I can't even describe all the feeling I felt as I looked at Gerard Way singing a song that meant so incredibly much to me.
In a way, you can say that song saved my life.
In case you want to see the music video, here's the link:

...and here's a photo I got of Gerard singing that song:

Sorry for being so emotionally, I'm not usually like this
(I originally drew this for art homework...the assignment was to draw your interpretation of your favorite song, and I of course had to choose this one.)

It's no problem! I really liked how you gave the crowd black and white colors and they kind of mashed into each other, and it seemed that the gee drawing was more colorful and stuck out and, of course, he didn't care. Amazing drawing, man.

I wanted it to be that Gee's special and stands out for being himself and breaking from the crowd - where as the crowd is faceless and dull because they just follow each other and don't express their individuality.
I'm really happy you got it and thanks for saying that

I respect you for doing this. It takes courage to share emotions like that, and its great that you show such relation to that song, its a great one. My first MCR song was just Helena coz I liked the video than I got black parade for my birthday and have loved them ever since. I think your first mcr experience was much more valuable.

Thank you so much for saying that. I'm actually not the type of person that opens up to people very easily (except with the friends I mentioned above), but it's much easier for me to express my emotions in writing
For some reason I really connected with that song, no other song has ever done that to me.
Helena's a great song, love the video too. Actually my first MCR song was Welcome to the Black Parade and I knew I'm Not Ok before that. Famous Last Words is what made me a fan.
It certainly helped change my life.
Also, thanks for the fav!

I really like this picture, and your interpretation of their music is beautiful. You know a song is powerful when it can hit you on that sort of level.
Oh, and referring back to about My Chem, yeah, that emo conntation is the main reason why I didn't venture further into their music until almost Danger Days came out. But I've become a huge fan now, mostly because their music is inspiring, if you listen to the lyrics (and it's much better than other garbage on mainstream radio). Of course, immediately I got that "emo" label from a few of my friends, and my brother, but I didn't care (and I'm definitely not "emo"). But give them a try, they've grown on me so much.
Okay, I'm gonna stop rambling now...

RubberDuck4LUNCH In reply to chaosbulldog [2011-05-13 03:17:20 +0000 UTC]
Thanks, I think a lot of their music can be interpreted on various levels. This song just has some extra special meaning for me.
I think that happened with a lot of their newer fans. To be honest the emo label they got never bothered me because when I became a fan I was very skater/on the verge of goth/emo, so they were right up my alley. That's the whole reason I liked them and still like them too! The lyrics are really deep and meaningful, compared to a lot of other mainstream music. Many fans I've talked to have their own interpretaions and cling to different songs. Oh I have friends who listen to stuff that is way more hard core than MCR, so I was the normal one out of my friends (I have a few scene friends...plus most of my friends like MCR too.) Maybe if you get then to listen to more of MCR's music they'll change their minds - because a lot of their music is very posivite if you're really listening to it.
It's ok, I enjoy MCR related rambling - I do it all the time

Yeah, I totally get what you're saying. I guess I was in that group that wasn't quite popular, but yet not a loner, so the middle ground. But getting into MCR lately, I've found out a few of my friends have actually listened to them too, but they only like a few songs, and I actually got my brother to listen a bit (but I need to do some more convincing for him, I think.
Plus, when they first came onto the scene (aka, I saw them on MTV), I actually kinda liked their music, but because of that emo label, I didn't venture further. Big fail on my part. I'm glad I re-found them later on in life.

Oh, I go to Catholic school so you can't really tell what everyone is till you see them outside of school We were kinda like "what do ya got left?" sort of group of friends...we went from scene kids, jocks, gamers, to indie artists and theater geeks~
Yeah, only 2 of my friends likes them as much as I do. One had a similar experience with "Welcome to the Black Parade."
You'll get him to be a fan, I'm sure
I think I was like that when I first heard them, but bought their music anyway when I first got my ipod. It's ok, as long as you got into them eventually that's all that counts~

Ohhh I like the concept and the art, even though I'm not really a MCR fan. Okay, I never really listened to them much, but... Emos... DUN HIT ME! I call Coldplay emo music too! ... and I admit to listening to Paramore and Linkin Park on occassion.
That said - I like the marching dude with the baton! Imma need to listen to this song now.
The way you described it makes it sound pretty cool.

Thanks, I'm kinda a huge fan~
They actually hate being refered to as emo...though some of there stuff is definetly on the verge (I mean, this song's from an album all about death...and their first album is even more morbid than that one...) Though Linkin Park might win the emo contest (I like both those bands too~).....
It's suppose to be the lead singer Gerard Way as the mascot on the Black Parade album
YOU NEED TO, IT'S AMAZING
It might convert you to being a Killjoy.

I can kinda tell.
I make no defense on Linkin Park... music whose lyrics consist of cutting and weeping is definitely... yeah. I should give My Chemical Romance a try since I haven't really listened to them. My brother would never let me live it down though. He listens to Coldplay and I went on a long tangent about how emo they were - now he calls all my music emo if he happens to hear me listening to it.
Ohhh really likes Chemical Romance. And I trust a ducky and zebra to recommend good music! She's probably love this pic.

Did my webcam and journals give it away? Or the photos and art I posted of it? Or my general crazed love for them?
Well they have that song "Crawl" (I think that's what it's called...) that's the epitome of emo music.
You might like them. They're lyrics are really well written and some of their songs are pretty funny (like "Vampire Money", which is making fun of Twighlight, and "Dead" which is basically making fun of death )
I don't know if I can blame him

That would make sense
Linkin Park - Crawl's made fun of all the time for being super emo
I'm more of a Paramore fan, but I listen to Linkin Park from time to time.
Yay! Make sure to check out their other videos too~
"I'm Not Ok" is really funny and "Helena" and "Ghost of You" are super pretty. "NaNaNa" and "Sing" are this continous story about them as a gang from the future fighting this evil utopian government, which I can see you liking~
Also, "Welcome to the Black Parade" is epic as well

I need to to - I just always hear people making fun of it. I didn't realize that about you, I'm more of an alternative fan (Panic! at the Disco, Blink182, Fall Out Boy, Franz Ferdinand, The Wombats, ect...)
Wait a second - how can you make fun of MCR when you like Evanesence?! They got the emo stamp from time to time as well (infact, people always assume I'm a fan of them whenever I say I like MCR...though I only like a few of their songs).
You really should. I find music videos super amusing. Want me to suggest some stuff? I've got lots of awesome music I can suggest

Fall Out Boy...? And you call Evanesence emo?! Ah well, to each their own. I'm not entirely sure what defines emo anyway.
Sure, have at it. Once I get my computer back at work I shall watch them. They took it away because they dun love me anymore.

I've been obssessed with these bands Destroy Rebulid Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.) and This Good Robot lately, they're awesome

That's songs sort of a joke (literally, they say all kinds of random things in that song - like something about mall cops I think ) Did you watch the video though? You'd love it
Now they're not metal at all, they're alternative with hints of pop and rock.
It's ok, they're sorta an acuqired tast I guess~

Yay! Happy you liked it! I love the crazy story behind the video - they're turning it into a comic (the lead singer was a comic artist originally and actually wrote the Unbrella Academy which is an epic win by the way, it's hilarious).
I listen to some of that kind of stuff, but mostly alternative/post-hardcore/pop/rock/indie.
That song has a way of getting stuck in your head and just refusing to leave. They opened the concert with that song and it was so crazy awesome! Don't forget angels made of garabage, fucking garabage to be percise.

What's the story behind it? I'm almost afraid to ask... I assumed someone got high and wrote and yeah.... the rest is history.
One thing that annoyed me was that they sound too much like a modern band trying to be Pink Floyd or the Beatles. Black Parade sounds really similar to The Beatles' Sargent Peppers album in look and style and all.
Garbage angels ftw! I started to sing that verse aloud, realized I was at work and stopped.

Well Gerard has a rather...interesting imagination
Basically they're a gang in the year 2019 fighting this evil corporation Feel Good Inc that basically controls what's left of society. Very 1984 if you ask me~
Beatles not really, but Pink Floyd I can kinda see. Look wise on Seargent Peppers but much darker - they were going for a more military funeral type of look, but sound wise Black Parade is nothing like Pepper - it's about a cancer paicent's journey through death. Plus they costuming for the videos/concert was done by the famous costume designer that does a lot of Tim Burton films (Alice in Wonderland was one) and Memoirs of a Gesha. I forget her name but she's awesome I can see that happening to you! That must have been hilarious and awkward.
My friends and I would always sing that together and edit out those parts...if we remebered~
