Hello Everyone! <3
Today I bring you an interesting piece, this is a class exercise we did a few weeks ago, where we had to take an animal of our choosing and study how it would change if we were to change its habitat and lifestyle.

For this exercise I choose a Reindeer, more specifically a Caribou (Rangifer tarandus). These animals are native to The Arctic, sub-Arctic, tundra, boreal, and mountainous regions of northern Europe, Siberia, and North America. Because they live in such an extremely cold habitat, I chose to change it and visualize how the animal would look if it lived in the Savannas of Africa. This drastic change caused the Reindeer to adapt and through evolution and natural selection after many years, it came to this final look.
The animal now has lost most of its abundant hair, the antlers have lots their velvet cover and are the texture is most similar to bone now, hooves and legs are smaller and shorter, allowing the animal to run fast to escape its new predators the lions. Ears and eyes are considerable larger to allow the animal to scan the environment and be on the look out for lions and other possible threats. The color of its coat has changed and has taken an orange hue due to the exposure of sunlight through the years, though it does keep the original white markings in the exact same places of the body.

I'm very happy with the final result of the artwork, I think it conveys very well the changes I wanted to portray, and most importantly, it looks like a new animal we've never seen before. I have to say I'm also very proud of my coloring style for this piece, the shading was particarly difficult since I wanted to make it look realistic while keeping the linework and a certain cartoon-ish style.
