That's cool, I've never coloured with gradients before. I think the images would be a teeny bit more helpful if they were screenshots, showing how you select with the lasso and use the gradients, but this is nice anyway.

Hey i wonder if you could help me with this problem: i followed ur tutorial and all went right (THANK YOU AGAIN) but when i wanted to use the same skin color i used in the face to color the arms i couldn't find a way to take the same color exactly!! >.πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rubinh0 In reply to Ganondorfson [2005-04-03 13:28:39 +0000 UTC]

hello
well i kan say that when ur painting some draw DO NOT paint each part separately, like: first u paint all face, then u paint all arms.
u must thing the wrk as a compositions, in thatway u will paint all parts in same time.
here you have some steps:
1-make a flat for your work. flat all work with basic colors. i used to start flating with the darker colors
2-choose the right colors to make the renders. in that way uwill use the same colors for the same parts. the same colors for ALL skin. (intead to use the CUETAGOTAS.. u kan put your colors in otehr file in some selecions)
3your renders will go from the darker to the hightlighted colors. i use AIRBRUSH.in some ways i use it in LINEAR DODGE or COLORS DODGE to make bright renders.

It's a great tut, but it's a pretty big image...there's no reason why anything on the internet needs to be wider than 1024 px. Nice lessons though!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

ChiCha-Tutorials In reply to Dualmask [2004-07-16 00:45:50 +0000 UTC]

Why do you think that? What if something took 100 hours of time plus the render, why should it be reduced to 1024? So someone can easily view it? Would you rather lose all the hard work attained into creating something, just so you can view it without scrolling? But everything? What abaout wallpapers that are 1600 width?

I understand about tutorials... but there are many things which should be larger, if their effort was to show?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dualmask In reply to ChiCha-Tutorials [2004-07-16 10:32:46 +0000 UTC]

The only real issue I had with the size is the fact that it took a long time to load. 1 MB is too large for any image on the internet, most monitors have enough resolution that if you scale something down to 1024 width you should be able to see all the details with no problem. And making it easier for others to view is an incentive to make it smaller, not to mention making it difficult for art thieves to steal and call their own.

As far as wallpapers go, you can always stretch or resize a monitor to conform to a smaller screen. It's not the same when referring to an image like this tutorial. If ~rubinh0 scaled it down, I'm sure it would be just as legible.

ChiCha-Tutorials In reply to Dualmask [2004-07-16 23:08:27 +0000 UTC]

Well, in my opinion, with art, there should be three... One as a thumb, one that's easily viewable, then actual size, so people as yourself who don't like a large load, or those with slower internet can see it with ease. Something that you work so hard on to make, and then making it half the size can take away so much detail. o_o

Dualmask In reply to ChiCha-Tutorials [2004-07-17 01:41:17 +0000 UTC]

I understand about not wanting to mess up your hard work...I'd advise to make one easily viewable on the net and keep the original sized version on your HD, that way if anyone really has trouble seeing it (doubtful at 1024 width) then you could always email it to them.

ChiCha-Tutorials In reply to Dualmask [2004-07-17 01:53:18 +0000 UTC]

Hmm.. Be happy that I'm not a big ranter at the moment... Someone wrote like... a 12-15k journal about someone complaining about the size of his images... He does renders that takes over 100 hours, shrinks it to over half its size, and he got extremely pissy about it. Hell, if my work was that time consuming and that big, I'd be pissed about it, too.

Just be wary of what you say. Suggest it, don't say "There is no reason..." "It should be" or things like that. Everyone has a different opinion. ^^ Try to respect it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dualmask In reply to ChiCha-Tutorials [2004-07-17 02:03:35 +0000 UTC]

All I'm saying is, if someone takes a very long time to finish a great big piece, that's one thing, but what good is it if half the potential viewers aren't going to wait for the massive thing to load or what if they don't feel like scrolling across to see the whole thing? (I'm only talking width, not height.) I don't intend to speak for every person, but me personally, my monitor is set for 1024x768, and I've never had any trouble seeing anyone's work that fits those dimensions (or smaller, as a great deal of the work on this site is). You don't have to resize your original work, but not everyone has high-speed connections and not everyone's monitor can go to 1600x1200, not even my high-end laptop which I just acquired. I would think someone uploading their work on the internet would want to expose it to the maximum audience they can. Reducing a 1600 px wide image to 1024 or even 800 pixels won't hurt the quality much, but it will make it a lot easier for more people to see. That's all I'm saying.

And also, I don't want to argue about this anymore. I am done. If you want to find someone else to argue with about this, go ahead, but, I have wasted enough of both our time.

ChiCha-Tutorials In reply to Dualmask [2004-07-18 04:57:21 +0000 UTC]

Hey, you didn't need to write all that. I know exactly what you were saying, and I don't mind you saying that. I know that a lot of people don't have monitors, connectoons or computers to handle larger images. I' don't have a problem suggesting that, especially on such things as tutorials. All I'm doing is warning you that some people don't take preaching about that as lightly as I have. *alyn is a great digital 3-D artist, and the work done is amazing. He had someone tell him that, and he was extremely angry about it. Look at his work, and start deciding that sometimes your opinion is not the same as others, and not everyone will listen to you, nor will some be very happy with you complaining about the size of the image. What's a thumbnail for? To see a smaller, convenient view of an image. Let them do as they please. If you decide that just because the size isn't to your liking, that is your choice, but I, myself, would rather prefer seeing the whole detail of a deviation. I also have it set to 1024x756. I don't mind scrolling, because when my jaw drops at something amazing, I would love to look at the whole thing in its real beauty.

If you don't understand me, think about it this way. Some guy requests that an artist paint his pictures smaller, maybe to the size of a 8.5 paper in width, just because he is too lazy to turn his head left or right. Isn't that just slightly rediculous?

Now I'm going in circles. I'm sorry to have bothered you. Please, just take my words into concideration, and watch your tongue, because I don't think conversations like this are necessary. Just be glad I'm not in a bitchy mood. >_> ;
