Description
He guides the fragile Jelly-herd through deeper waters, hoping to find refuge from the storm. This
took
forever.
I actually started this picture several months ago with a sketch of the guy, then I got stuck after coloring him in. I couldn't decide on a background - you should see the different versions I had lol (Sea-dragon, Lionfish, Cthulhu... well, a giant squid actually.) Then with some helpful advice from a few stout art critics, I used an anglerfish.
I wanted break away temporarily from fanart to do some original art - so, here you go! A Jellyfish herd and a Merman, but their faint glow attracts something more deadly than bargained for. Round 1, Merman versus Anglerfish!
This will be available as a print, as soon as I figure the prints out. Yay!! My first official DA print!

I think the appropriate term here would be: "WOW!" You know, even without critiquing the tecnique itself or even the medium the composition of this piece is noteworthy. I've never seen anything like this before. Merpeople are not a new concept in art, and mer warriors aren't entirely unheard of either, but this... a mer herdsman having to defend himself and his flock... most refreshing indeed! As for the coloring - ideal! The tecnique: riveting. All in all, I think some day someone will write a story about this art... I just hope I get to read it.

Wow! Thank you so much for the indepth feedback. I like merpeople, and want to see them doing more things than floating around - water is an interesting setting and full of possible creatures, and things that could seem alien but are not that strange.
I'd be only too happy if someone were to write a story about a mer herdsman.

Sweetness! Well it may not be any time too soon, but if I write the story I'll be sure and let you know... your feedback would be important as the creator of the inspiration.

This is incredible, I love the detail that goes down to the hairs on the fish, and the scales on the merman.
It makes you imagine a whole new world, underwater, which at first seems more primitive than our own civilisation, but is far more diverse...anyway...it's cool

Terrifyingly beautiful. Anglerfish kind of creep me out anyway so this is a terrifying sight for me. This crap gives me nightmares. *shudder* Wonderfully rendered though. Portraying something coming out of the dark is never easy and you've done admirably here. composition is nice and the jellies do a good job of drawing the eye around the whole piece. Overall a nice work. I love the shading on the merman's fins. It strikes me for some reason.
