Description
Promise Me?*Spoiler Alert for the Chimera Ant Arc!*
"Just, just stay there. Okay? Stay there, please." In front of me, Killua Zoldyck was begging me to stay where I was.
"What about you and Gon!? I can't just abandon you guys! I can not just sit here while the both of you fight...." Trailing off at the end of my sentence, I looked down at the ground, not being able to take the burning desperation in Killua's eyes.
We had no idea what would happen tonight.
Who wouldn't make it, we didn't know.
What we would lose, no clue at all.
"(Y/N).....Look at me." I heard his voice demand. Someone has got to save Gon, I knew that, but I was so afraid I would lose the both of them at the same time.
I slowly looked up, I looked up to the boy I love. To the boy I was afraid of losing. I saw the desperation in his eyes to save his best friend. I knew I was in the way, I knew Gon could die because of me. At the same time, I was also afraid that Killua would die too. If Gon and Killua both died then who would I have?!
His eyes glistened in the moonlight, a stray tear falling out of his sapphire orbs. I stretched my hand out and wiped the tear away, "Stay safe Killua. I will stay here, just because you asked me."
Killua's face brightened a little, in admiration and something I couldn't really solve. "Thank you (Y/N), thank you so much." He turned around, his back facing me, and activated Godspeed. I looked down at the ground solemnly, until, something struck in my mind.
I called out to stop him from leaving. He turned around and faced me, turning off his Godspeed, "What?" Killua asked gently while stepping closer to me. I walked up to him and stopped right in front of the boy. I gently combined our hands and held them close to my heart, he looked at me shocked.
His eyes had widened and his mouth gaped a bit, "Killua, promise me something." he swallowed and nodded his head.
Killua's eyes had returned to their normal size, his hair was messed up a bit, and his lips pursed together. I looked at him, looking at all his imperfections and flaws. To me, they were nothing but beautiful but would he ever know that? No, he wouldn't.
I sighed tiredly, I was tired of this crap, this feeling of danger. I was tired.
I let my grasp on his hands go and leaned my head on his chest. I could hear his beating heart, I noticed it had fastened a little. I curled my hands around his back, giving him a hug. I felt him hesitantly put his hands around me.
"Promise me, Killua," I whispered into his shirt, clutching his back for strength to continue.
"Promise me you will come back safe. Promise me you will come back for me. Promise me you will help Gon." Tears ran down my face, soaking his shirts cloth.
He didn't say anything for a while, but his grasp on me tightened. "A-and," I had to swallow before I could talk clearly. "And I....I..."
Back then, I didn't know whether I should've confessed to him. Looking back on it, I wish I did, for the future wasn't pretty.
I wish I had known that.
I cleared my throat, "Good luck, Killua." looking up at him as I said it with as much strength as I could muster. His clear blue eyes were looking straight down at me, we looked into each other's eyes for what felt like centuries but was probably only a minute.
Killua reached out and wiped my tears away for me, his hand falling back to me.
I closed my eyes and leaned up, pressing my lips against his. I felt him kiss back and for a moment I was happy, leaning back, I looked up at him. "Go, you baka! Go save Gon. Save him for his sake, yours, and mine." I pushed him away teasingly, he grinned slightly and waved to me.
"I will come back, with Gon." He said determinedly, "Goodbye (Y/N), you stay safe too." I smiled weakly, "I'll try Killua." his smile faded and he turned serious, he turned his Godspeed back on and gave a slight smile my way before taking off. The trees around us swayed at the force of his run. The farther he got, the lower my mood sunk.
My stomach grumbled but I could do nothing about it, my eyes burned but all I could do was rub them. I had to stay on guard, there might be some left over Chimera Ants, but it was so hard.
I leaned on the nearest tree by me and lowered myself to the ground, yawning. No good, I can't focus at all. I quickly gave up on trying to keep up my guard and let the darkness comfort me to sleep.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I let out a terrified scream as my body hit the ground. My eyes bolted open and my legs jumped off the ground, I had let my guard down and a Chimera Ant happened to cross paths with me.
I looked in front of me and saw an ugly Chimera Ant. It was one of the weaklings, thank goodness! I wouldn't have been able to fight it if it had been a higher up one.
Sadly, I was still weak and hungry. I had gotten some sleep and that did help but by now by stomach was roaring and twisting in hunger. I held the side of my stomach where the Chimera Ant had kicked me, the kick had been so forceful that I had flown away from the thing.
'I don't think I'll have to use my Hatsu for this, I'll just use Ren and my fists.'
I ran at it, getting my fists ready and in the position to punch. I swerved just in case it had a surprise attack. I jumped at it when getting close enough and punched its head. It got knocked away but jumped back at me, punching my side where it had kicked me.
This went on until there was a noise. It was a little faint but that was definitely Killua! I let my guard down and looked wide-eyed at the place I heard the scream. That was Killua screaming Gons name, it sounded like he was in pain. The Chimera Ant I had been fighting got a blow while I wasn't looking. It hurt, and it knocked me into a tree.
That was the least of my worries.
After the scream came a deafening booming sound, like a bomb, and a very bright light.
The force of whatever happened had blown all the trees away, my already unconscious body going with the force, the wind, and the trees.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Eight broken ribs, left arm broken, left leg broken, severe concussion, and possible risk of going into a coma." The doctor replied solemnly,
"H-how is she now?" Killua stuttered out.
The doctor sighed and took off his glasses, it looked like he had been doing this for years, he looked Killua straight in the eye. "The chance of her falling into a coma is.... very high. I'm sorry young man, we'll do the best we can."
"Thank you, doctor." Alluka, who was beside Killua, spoke up. She put a comforting hand on her brother's shoulder and guided him to a bench after bowing to one of the multiple doctors treating (Y/N).
"It's okay Onii-Chan. Don't blame yourself, (Y/N) wouldn't want you to." Alluka comforted Killua the best she could.
"Alluka, thank you. I appreciate your help, but it was my fault! I-I told her to stay where she was! I should've told her to go as far away as possible! I didn't know what I would find, I should've thought more about it instead of rushing in! I can't.....I can't lose the both of them!"
The young boy finally broke down by the end of his rant, tears pouring down his face and sobbing so hard his body shook, he hugged his sister for support.
"I....I broke our promise." He whispered into his sister's shoulder, "I promised I would go back to her!" he yelled into the cloth of his sister's dress. "I didn't go back for her..... I was so caught up in getting Gon to safety I.....I forgot...about...her."
"You saved Gon though, and you came back safe." Alluka, who had been informed about the promises he made to the girl, had tried to reason with her brother. "It wasn't your fault. It wasn't anyone's fault. If you had left Gon to go back to her, Gon would've died. She would've been angry if you kept her promise instead of saving Gon." Alluka explained to her brother gently.
"I...I guess. I could've used Godspeed though." He sniffed and buried his head further into her shoulder.
"If you did, how would she get back to where you were before? And don't say you'd carry her, she was probably injured at that time too. There wasn't anything you could do and you know it! She isn't going to die either, the worst that can happen is she will fall into a coma. but she won't die. I know it, Onii-chan, she won't die!" His sister explained.
Killua lifted his head up and looked at her, "You're amazing, Alluka. Thank you, I won't blame myself anymore. I see the logic in your words, but I'll still be sad and worried for her." he gave her a smile through his tears.
"Of course you will, Onii-chan. I can't do anything about that. Now go ask the doctor when we will be able to go in and see her." Alluka shooed her brother to the doctor while she sat on the bench thinking.
"I'm sorry to bother you, doctor, but when do you think we can see (Y/N)?" Killua asked the doctor, who had been writing something on a clipboard, the doctor looked over at the young boy.
"Patient (Y/N) (L/N)?" The doctor questioned the boy.
"Yes, she's in room five hundred and forty-four." Killua confirmed the doctor's question.
"Yes, yes. (L/N), (L/N)." He repeated while his eyes trailed down the paper pinned to his clipboard. "Ah ha! Hmm, we just got her in two days ago. When were you informed about her....injuries, young man?"He had hesitated on saying what her actual state was, Killua just ignored the hesitation and answered.
"I was informed an hour ago. Y'see, my other friend is...was in a dire state. I had not been told about her until I got back from bringing my young sister here."
"Hmmm, okay. Is your parent around? I'm guessing your good friends with (Y/N) (L/N), am I correct?" The doctor questioned Killua again.
"Yes, I'm very good friends with her. As for the other question, my parent is not around. In fact..." killua fished in his pocket, trying to find the piece of paper that would blow the doctor's mind.
After finding it, he pulled out his Hunters Licence and put it in the doctor's face.
"I am a Hunter, so is (Y/N)." Killua stated.
The doctor was flabbergasted at the tiny piece of paper in the young boy's hands. He took it with two shaky hands and stared at it, his mouth wide open he asked "Y-you're a real H-Hunter? At such a young age!?".
"Yes, sir." He played innocent but could barely contain the smirk waiting to show.
"Well, you must be quite powerful." The doctor handed his license back while eyeing him suspiciously, then continued. "You must be mature, so maybe we will be able to talk about (Y/N) (L/N)'s state seriously." The doctor turned gravely serious, he rushed the boy to two chairs where they sat down and discussed the young girl's state.
"It is most likely she will fall into a coma." The doctor told Killua. "For how long?" The boy questioned, all traces of humor gone.
Mr. Ikeru, which Killua read on his name tag, took off his glasses and looked at the boy.
"We're not sure, we think about five months." Mr. Ikeru answered Killua's question, the boy cursed under his breath. "If she does fall into a coma and it is five months, be happy boy. I know some people that have had to suffer for years.
"I know, Mr. Ikeru, trust me I know. It's just, I'm afraid she will hate me when she wakes up. Well, if she does go into a coma." Killua looked at the table, his eyes blank of any emotion.
"Well kid, just think of it this way. Would you rather have her mad at you or her gone?"
At these words, the boys head snaps up to look at the doctor. "I'll remember that, thanks, doc!" They shook hands and Killua sprinted over to his sister, ready to tell her about the new information.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Y/N) had fallen into a coma after four days. Killua was devastated, Alluka was as gentle as always and tried to comfort him. Gon, who had been treated by Alluka four days ago, had also been informed and was also devastated.
Leorio had been informed too and went to check up on everyone.
Two months past and Killua was starting to become depressed, Mr. Ikeru's words always cheered him up a bit but the happiness would wear off in a day or so.
Every day Mr. Ikeru would inform Killua about her state, and Killua appreciated it but couldn't show his gratitude. All the young boy could do was think of all their memories, sleep, and occasionally eat. Alluka did her best to make sure her brother was eating and okay, but she was starting to fall behind on trying to make him happy.
Three months went by slowly and torturous for Killua, but on the fifth month, the boy wouldn't leave the phone alone. Once a week he would visit her hospital room with flowers, talk to Mr. Ikeru, and would read the girl stories she said she loved.
It was already two months past the date the doctors said she would wake up. Killua still brought flowers and hung out at the hospital every week but the bags under his eyes darkened and he seemed to be getting skinnier.
One day, he was walking to the hospital to visit, he had a beautiful bunch of flowers, the same as always. Doing the weekly routine he had been doing for three months, he knew almost everyone on the 3rd floor of the hospital and Mr. Ikeru and Killua had become very good friends, no care about the age difference.
He entered the hospital and went to the 3rd floor where room five hundred and forty-four lie. It seemed like a normal day to him, but something was off.
The nurses were too cheery and smiled way too brightly at him. Mr. Ikera had given him the biggest smile he had seen in the seven months of knowing him. He had thought this suspicious but was just too tired and weakened to think about it or care.
He opened the door of room five hundred and forty-four carefully, he had brought a lot more stories in his backpack than usual and a few ChocoRobo-Kuns he could snack on.
Upon opening the door, he saw (Y/N) sitting up on her bed staring out the window. He had dropped the flowers and started at her, his mouth agape. (Y/N), startled at the sound, turned her head gently to the door. "K-Killua?" She whispered, her eyes widened, her voice was rough because of the lack of speech for months. Her hair had grown all the way to her belly button and her eyelashes were longer than he had remembered on that night.
"(Y-Y/N?)" He dropped his backpack on the ground and sprinted over to the girl. He gently wrapped his arms around her and hugged her, "How are you feeling?" he whispered into her hair. "Maybe a little stiff and sore but other than that relieved." She replied back with a bit of a laugh. He chuckled, mostly to cover up the tears of happiness pouring out of his eyes though.
Killua cleared his throat and daringly leaned back to look at her. Her face was also flowing with tears and they both laughed a little.
"I'm really happy your back, but I'm angry at myself for that night and I don't blame you for being angry at me too." The boy told her honestly, "No, no, no! None of that. An hour after I woke up, Gon had called and told me the whole story and why not to be angry at you."
Killua smiled at the thought of Gon doing that and then sighed a breath of relief. "Thank goodness. If you were mad at me then I wouldn't have been able to do this." He then leaned forward and pressed his lips against (Y/N)'s, she kissed him back straight away.
After they kissed, Killua leaned back, "I've been wanting to tell you this since that night but... I love you (Y/N) (L/N)! I really do love you and those past seven months were torturous for me." he blurted out with a blush.
The young girl blushed and replied to the boy's confession, "I love you too Killua Zoldyck, I really do."
They smiled at each other and kissed again.
Finally, after seven months of not smiling, Killua Zoldyck had smiled genuinely at the love of his life.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bonus Fact
Killua Zoldyck proposed to (Y/N) (L/N) when she turned twenty-four.
When planning their wedding, Killua invited Mr. Ikera for everything he had done for them.
