Description "Fret not child, mother is here."

This is a drawing of Mira, of course and initially this was to be her just bumming it around her manor in normal clothes but I had an idea half way through. I decided to put Katarina behind her mother, hiding in some degree of fear. Her mother is clearly standing her ground and protecting her child. I tried to make Mira look fiercer in this one. I used shadow to give her a scowl. Now, a few things. I couldn't get Mira's belly button right but I am satisfied with the result. Second, Katarina was a last minute addition. Well, like, I did the outline, then added the fine, hard lines but before I started shading and doing the lighting I said to myself "Wait, let's put Katarina here near her mom's belly." With that said, she was actually completely finished first, then I finished her mother.

A few things here I want to point out. In Katarina's hand is an Orthodox prayer rope. In my church, which uses Church Slavonic, we use the Russian word "chotki" instead of the generic prayer rope. It's our version of the Rosary the Roman Catholics use. I am very pleased with the stitching work around Mira's cuffs and her clothing's many folds and very shadows. Take note of Mira's feet...look a tad swollen do they lol? Intentional. Finally, I am not 100% sure on Katarina's proportions. Reason being, she's a 4 year old, I have no 4 year olds laying around to just go "Hey, let me see how tall you are compared to my 5'5" character." So, she might not be so short or whatever. Like I said, I didn't plan on her being there initially but her addition worked out as perfect as it can get.

Finally, the title should be clear. A mother will protect her children through and through, against whatever terror comes their way. For a true mother will always be there. You can imagine this as a scene where Mira and Katarina are out in the woods. Katarina was rubbing her mom's belly when bandits show up and Mira hops to her feet, ready to go. A mother must be steadfast in protecting what is important.

*EDIT* I just tweeked the contrast to make it darker.

I like seeing you attempt more than single figure poses and scenes.  I admit making Katarina share her mothers characteristics is good but her face still seems a bit too mature in my view.  Impressive detailing as always.

Yeah, not exactly easy to find a good reference pic for the type of 4 year old I had in mind. I was a little restrained my Mira when it came to putting in Katarina. If I had planned for it more, she would have probably been more to the side but then again, Mira is jumping up in front of her daughter, shielding her. Maybe I will try another, less fierce version of this later.
