Description
For the ~Zelda-OC-Club 's "OC Sweethearts" contest. Please fullview, for the love of all three golden goddesses! ...devART made the thumbnail TINY, darnit. In my Hyrule, many tales are told of the evil Wind Mage, Vaati. Most of them involve the many-winged, one-eyed monster who steals away maidens (and sometimes ill-behaved children!) to his Palace of Winds in the sky, only to be defeated by the Hero of Men and the Four Sword, time and again.
But once in a while--especially closer to the Market Town near Hyrule Castle--you'll hear a different tale: the story of how Vaati walked in Hyrule in human form, and fell in love with a Hylian maiden.
Those who doubt the truth of this tale are invited to go to the Royal Graveyard and see for themselves the tomb of pale stone that bears these words:
Merai
Lady of the Kingdom of Hyrule
Lady of the Palace of Winds
Here you see Vaati dancing with Merai, before Merai was either Hyrule's lady or Vaati's, and was still attendant to the Princess' Court. The new King of Hyrule has invited the Wind Mage to his father's funeral and his coronation, hoping to open cordial relations with the Palace of Winds.
Merai's dress was a gift from Vaati, several years ago when he let her and her younger brother Stefan go from the Palace of Winds, in exchange for their oath not to reveal its location.
For those who are following the Myriad Path, this is quite a few years beforehand; Garrin and Choro would be about five or six years old.
Hyrule, Vaati, and all related characters and settings (c) Nintendo.
This particular interpretation of Vaati brought to you by what I fondly call "the Hyrule in my head."
Merai (c) me.

So cute! Your picture is very lovely. I've always been fond of ballroom dancing scenes. ^_^ And Vaati's and Merai's outfits look great. <3

Thanks! ...their outfits were a pain to design, because I'm not generally good at that, so it's nice to hear that they turned out well.

You're very welcome! When I draw outfits, I have more problems trying to draw (or even think of a design for an outfit that does not look weird) for the guys than I do with girls. ^_^;

They were so happy.
This isn't actually the drawing I was telling you about, I'm hoping to put that up along with a couple other sketches and a quick profile-type thing. It shows the dress in a bit more detail. However, this IS one of the few drawings I've done where she actually came out looking like herself, so I was very happy on that count.

Wow, that's a really neat style! I love the lineart- it's so soft and works perfectly for the coloring. The coloring, btw, is also fabulous.
I really love the designs of their clothing!

Merai's dress took a LOT of tries to make it look like what I could half-see in my head! Vaati's clothes just sorta happened--except the sandal-boots, which vexed me mightily. It is a quirk of my interpretation of Vaati that, as a former Minish, he can't stand to have his toes confined.

I haven't hear it straight from you, but I've often hear it in fanfictions and such. XD
Even though I'd heard it before, I still really like it. Plus I never tire of hearing Vaati theories!

I've often heard that theory floating around! It's quite a neat theory, and it makes a lot of sense.

I think I've thrown that one at you before, actually....I lose track of who I've blathered my many many Vaati theories at sometimes.

Lovely! It looks so sophisticated.
Did you use a texture for the floor?

Sort of! I actually used a photo of a parquet floor that I took in Istanbul, and messed with color and perspective to make it fit (after determining that I could not, in fact, use my interior photos of the Hostpitaleir's castle on Rhodes to cheat on the background).
