Description
I have been submitting a lot of portraits lately eh?Ok, so this is Becca, with whom I had been dying to do a proper shoot with for a while. This girl has such a great sense of style and made my job MUCH easier by bringing a variety of 'looks' - as subsequent posts will show. She also knows how to pose with little instruction.
I managed to steal her away for a couple of hours to DUMBO, one of my favourite places to shoot - I really need to go there more often. I had a roll of Fuji NPS 160 portrait film knocking around for MONTHS with the intention of doing a shoot and I am VERY pleased with its results. Skin tones were quite natural and gently warm. I shot outdoors entirely in 2-4pm sun, with a variety of f-stops [from 3.0 as in this shot to 11] and shutter speeds [45-250]. As usual the print is MUCH better than my midnight scan attempt.
I cannot tell you how great the contrasty colours were with this film. For a first taste I am quite pleased. But enough about that..now on to the tech specs:
Camera: Canon Rebel 2000
Lens: Canon 70-210
Film: Fuji NPS 160
F: 3.0
Shutter : Unrecorded
Location: A park in DUMBO
I may have to take this shot down if Becca freaks upon seeing it in the morning..hm...
Title is an inside joke.

Love her eyes, they are simply beautiful. She shouldn't freak out, she is perfect in front of the cam. You accomplished this perfectly, skin tones are right on, the angle is beautiful. Her grayish/blue eyes are to die for. Her smirk adds to her natural beauty. I would change a thing, and she should be proud..

great angle.
She looks really good; really natural. Nice model
And it's all made even better by listening to the libertines - somehow the shot seems to go...

haha glad it added to your music. and thanks, it was a precarious angle, i was literally teetering on a rock while she sat on a lower rock down by the east river. haha. i think it was worth it though.

yeah, blatantly, it's always worth just going that extra mile.
Do you have the libertines over there, by the way?
they're english so i'm not sure... kinda like the strokes but more wasted, and VERY english!

They're pretty indie; their debut album's been out for about a year over here, and they got festival billings this summer and stuff - they're cool so if you're into indie and get the chance, listen to some of their stuff.

You're very good at capturing the 'cheeky' side of ppl's personalities. I love the soft colors and dewey skin tones. And of course that sassy smile!
Nice work, legume.

ravenlike is such a good word.. for me, it is the half-smile. with such a short dof I would have hoped for the centre to be the eyes, but it actually seems to be right at the top of the crop to the hairline Anyway, this matters not a hoot in terms of the feel of the picture. As ~sevgrlx said so eloquently (
), it is nice to see a portrait of a earthy person on dA!

hmmm. my eyes my eyes - did i tell u i have the WORST eyesight?
So see i have two shots of this pic. In one the top of her head is in focus.. eye is completely out of focus [i was balanced precariously on a rock for this shot], so its no surprise i wobbled.
Now the second shot [above] her eye and a left column of her hair above the eye is in focus in the print. when i scanned it the scan came out 'soft'. I didn't really want to unsharp mask...but hmmm you have me wondering if i really need to relook at the print with a loupe to check out my focal points. I want this shot to work - and i thought her eye was more in focus- we were going to reshoot also...so you think i should have my point of focus a smidgen down?

well, I just assumed it was to do with the f-stop @ 3 giving you a finer focal depth. Had it been around the 8-11 mark you would have gotten away with it.. hehehe.. just pesky kids like me pointing these little things out.
The rock-balancing thing could definitely be the culprit! I don't think unsharp mask would be that helpful, as it might just over-empahsise the hair.
Seriously, Saer, I was just being a little picky, but then I have to call it as I see it, eh?
I have another of your in my list to comment on yet.. hehe!

Tell her not to freak out. She looks fantastic. Like a real woman and not some airbrushed "I'm to sexy for this lens" twit.
It's wonderful ruhig very very fresh looking.

I will tell her that she would be glad to hear that. I didnt want this to be overtly fashionistic but more casually stylish. hehe.

oh, P.S.
I love the star and the boxes in the corner,
and the border is really effective to the over all look of the picture
