If you already know the manual mode and its effects your well on your way.
If you're thinking of buying a lens, i recommend something with a wide apperture like a 50mm f/1.4 if you can, lovely portrait lens

When we're done reeling from how much the camera costs, I'll have to convince my mom into getting another lens (technically it's the family camera. I can't take it with me when I go off to college :^( )
