Description Just one more period.  That meant English for JoAnn and a study hall for himl.  She’d drop him off in his study hall -  the locker he shared with Lilly.  She was nearly late for class and was fumbling for the key.  There! Except it was the wrong key.

The box swayed and shuddered as she continued fumbling.  Craning his head back and looking through the skylight he caught glimpses of the giant teenager.  Suddenly it felt like he was in free fall and then the crush of gravity as the box almost came to a halt just before it made contact with the ground.  What the fuck was she doing?

Now she could search her purse..  it had to be in there.  Sure enough - the other keychain.  The locker door opened and she picked his box up.

A light was shining on a shelf a bit more than waist high.  That had to be it.  She raised his travel case about to the right level.

“I think this is right.  Get out and see?”

Carter pulled the handle on his seatbelt and tried standing.

“Hurry up a little!”  came the giant girl’s voice from outside.  He stood up.  The case was moving around like a boat in choppy water. He reached for his books and walked the straightest path he could to the door.  The door was jammed.

“You’re probably too low” he yelled at the top of his lungs.

There was a sudden jerk that almost knocked him over.  She had to learn how to do this.

“try now…” she said.

The door opened now, but the shelf was about five inches down -most than his height.

“Down a little”

The case suddenly dropped. Now the shelf floor was only about an inch below.  He jumped out.

“I’m out.  Open the top and take out my desk

She’d be late for sure.  The top opened up and there it was.  She set it on the shelf next to him.

“Where does the box go?”

“Somewhere below..  that’s where she took it from… I’ve never seen it.”

“I’ll stuff it in.  I’d talk, but I’m late already.  Later!”

The door slammed and he heard the lock click shut followed by the clicking of shoes as she ran.  This was his second study hall of the day.  Most were supposed to be in here unless he was meeting with someone like Ms. Steele.  For a older normal she was a babe.  Too bad it’d be with one or both of the girl giants.  And what about girls?  It’d be just his luck for a new ds-er to transfer in and turn out to be a guy.   He paced back and forth rather than looking at his homework.

Twenty minutes or more had gone by.  He didn’t have a clock or a phone.   The harsh light from above and the metallic sound made it feel like a prison.  That’s exactly what living with normals was like - prison.  They controlled all of his movements.  Even Cindi was the responsible one by right of size when she was the only normal around.   She wasn’t even twelve yet.  How could his parents have done this to him?

Some guys were talking near his locker.  Something about basketball tryouts.  This was going to be the year he planned to go for it in sports.  As a ds-er he was a bit small for his age, but he was really fast and coordinated.  He wanted to see how good he was and many impress a girl.  Shit!  Now all of that was gone.  Why did they do this to him?  The talk outside faded.  He just paced.

Suddenly footsteps and a locker door crashed open. Girls this time.  They were giggling about boys.  He tried to ignore it until he heard Lilly’s name.

“Yeah..  she’s got that new ds-er.”

“How long?”

“All year I think."

"Ewwww….   can you imagine?”

“Do they pay her?”

“It'd take a lot of money for me to do it."

"How you seen him yet?”

“It’s a guy?”

“Yeah  it was in the school paper last week.  Something like Conrad…”

“Pretty sure it was Carter.”

“Any of you ever met one?”

“My grandparents.”

“gross, he?”

“How could anyone ever..”

"If you gave him a blow job you might swallow him"

The locker slammed shut and the voices faded with bursts of laughter.

Head bent and depressed, he sat at his desk and tired to clear his mind.  Maybe he could avoid Cindi tonight.

The lock rattled and a tall shaft of light appeared and grew to reveal Lilly’s waist and chest.   Bending his head back he looked up and then up some more to meet her eyes.

“Hey there! Ready to roll?”  she sounded excited.

“I guess..”

She stopped. “Aren’t you excited?”

“Want the short story or the long one?”

“Try me..  your pick.”

“It’s so damed depressing. It’s like being in a prison.”

“eh?”  that startled her.  “wanna talk?”

“Not here.”

“Ok..”  she disappeared but kept talking as she took out his travel case. “My friend Amy’s working at this new ice cream parlor. I’ll treat.”

“sure..”

“Will it be ok with your parents?  I was supposed to drop you off.”

It’d be way better!  Emily wouldn’t be home until after six and his Dad was traveling.  He’d be alone with Cindi and she had been threatening to make him play in her dollhouse.  :

See if you can make it after six.  I really need to stay away from Cindi.”

“I’ll try.  Hop in.”

He strapped in and they bounced along.  It was too noisy with all of the other kids to tell if she was calling anyone. The shop must have been close.  A few minutes later the lighting and sound level changed and Lily was talking to another girl.

“Can you put me in the back? I don’t want any gawkers.”

“Over there.. we don’t open that part ’til later anyway.”

The case finally stopped bouncing and landed with a hard thump.  A tabletop maybe?

“OK .. we’re here"

It looked like an ice cream parlor.  Only enormous. Lilly was just sitting down when he heard the other girl’s voice behind him.

“oh my god!  He’s so cute!  Can I?”

Lilly must have communicated without using words as the other girl changed the subject.

“I only have normal sized menus, but we've got a ton of flavours. You guys know what you want?”

Lilly looked up at Amy.  “Strawberry milkshake.  Really thick too. .. like you can stand a spoon in it.”   She looked down at him “You can have some if you want.”

“Cold makes my head hurt.  Have any cake or cookies?”

“… best one’s the hazelnut and chocolate layer cake.”

“Oooo  that sounds yummy”  Lilly said “I’ll have a piece and we’ll share.“

“Really?” the waitress said.  “I was going to cut off a sliver for him - no charge.  So just the cake now?”

“The milkshake too …  I’m starving.”

Amy walked off and they started talking.

“Prison?”

“Totally sucks..  I’ve gotta depend on you guys for everything.”

“just talk..  I’ll try and listen..”

“You know about my parents splitting…  Dad could’ve stayed at  North Star.  This was supposed to be my year.  I was going to try out for the eighth grade basketball team.  It was going to be completely different from primary school.”

“This is different isn’t it?”  she said

“Too different.  I’m the only one.”

“You’ve got some friends already don’t you?”

That touched a nerve.  There was a bit of bitterness in his voice. “It’s like you were assigned.  Did you have a choice? I didn’t.”

She bit her lip and stayed quiet.

“It’s like I’m some kind of cripple.”

She winced.  “Classes ok?”

“I guess..  but what about PE?  Plus I've gotta sit on your desk or JoAnn’s desk  or even the teacher’s desk. I have to be put on the fucking desk and taken off.  And you know what the worst part is?”

She shock her head and noticed Amy out of the corner of her eye.

“Hold that - looks like the cake light is on.”

He turned as a huge plate come down next to him with a sofa-sized piece of cake.  It looked awfully good.

“Sorry ..  we don’t have place settings your size.  I’ll bring a little water bowl and napkin to wipe your hands.  Want an spoon for some of the milkshake?”

She watched him shake his head.  Then the door opened.  Lilly turned to watch as a noisy group of students walked in.  Amy started back towards the counter to greet them.  Then she stopped and turned.

“Oh..  and I put some fresh blueberries on it for you.  They’re really great.”

At least it looked delicious.

Love his talking about his feelings. It's tough living in a Gigantic world. You really bring that to life. This is a thousand times better than the movie. To be the object of curiosity. The waitress looks kind and beautiful.
