Description
An experimental Space-Plane (a vehicle that takes off like a conventional aircraft using jet engines, then uses conventional chemical rocket engines to achieve orbit) takes off from it's birthplace in Southern California to undergo flight-tests at Edwards Air Force Base, 60 miles North East. This small base was the birthplace of Space Shuttles. So it only seemed fitting to use it in this picture.

Eh, if only...
Instead we're getting inefficient for this cargo load ranges "VTOL" conventional rockets being popularized
Stratolaunch is our only hope now. Even if it's far from Black Horse and Star Raker ideas.
Great picture btw

Thanks! And I feel ya! I've seem most of the current spacecraft and I gotta say, there's just something special about space planes that you don't get with a conventional rocket.

It's called fuel efficiency and engine lifespan
But sadly all the shortcomings and political scheming completly ruined Space Shuttle program and with it the whole idea of SSTO and public image of space planes And add on top that the fall of USSR resulted in competition in this area that was bound to never take flight and thus not provide further encouragement to such programs.
