This is it, proof that my life isn't 100% Star Trek... just... maybe 90%. I've been playing Subnautica for a few months and goddddddddd do I love it (I just keep making myself dizzy by moving around too much in the seamoth...). It's beautiful and also terrifying. I didn't know it would be kind of a horror game and I ain't even mad that it is.

I'm a big nerd and I have a fic for it. Like, the first fic I've ever published. It's here: archiveofourown.org/works/1014…
That's where the title comes from, partially because I don't plan on this being my last/only illustration for it. Cai isn't the player character (that's Arlen), though I imagine she'd be stuck in an Alterra dive suit given all the Alterra replicating systems Arlen has.
i forgot to put the alterra logo on her suit but let's ignore that
She definitely didn't expect to be stranded on a planet, especially not an ocean planet... she's gonna need a haircut. Considering how much of the fauna on this planet is hostile, minimizing your drag is almost a necessity.

She's super stressed out. But can you blame her? I'd die tbh

I needed something to keep myself busy during my spring break so here it is, likely the last drawing I'll make till my summer break. Ugghhh

Done in SAI with post-processing in Photoshop.
Cai is mine but Subnautica definitely is not.

Constructive critique is welcome and encouraged, I'd like to know how I did in terms of anatomy for the most part (but any other kind of advice helps too).

Spotted this on tumblr and gave it a read; a great start that leaves me curious for more! My only critiques are agreeing with what NoCoincidence said on AO3- Protagonist seems very like "oh another human. whatever." so that either needs to be fleshed out and explained, or tweaked a little- and the fact that bone sharks don't live in the Dunes. xD (did you mean to type sand sharks, perhaps?)

As for the painting, as far as anatomy is concerned I think it looks great! Her right shoulder is perhaps a little far from her body, looking a little disconnected, but otherwise the anatomy looks great to my eyes. One thing I would critique is the lighting; it's kind of.. all over the place. There's lighting coming from in front on her legs, then from the side on her butt, then from behind on her back, then her face is again lit from the front, but the shadows on the floor are going in different directions to the light. With the creepvine seed clusters in the background I feel like this is a missed opportunity for two opposing light sources that could have created a great effect: warm gold from behind and harsh cool Alterra lighting from the front. The background itself is very pleasant though! Those leaves must have taken ages o___o

Ahh!! Thanks!! There's more to publish, but since NoCoincidence's comment mentioned my spacing issues I thought maybe I'd delay putting them up to edit/refine more. I'll probably do the same with chapter 1 too now that I have two people commenting about that -- thanks for bringing it to my attention!
And omg yes, I did mean sand sharks I could've sworn I fixed that, I guess I didn't!
I try to avoid the dunes as much as I can, to be honest. A biome full of reapers? No thanks.... nope...... not happening.........

Thank you so much for the art crit too I really appreciate it! I'll keep the shoulder thing in mind, and I'll try to be more uniform with lighting next time I draw
(and the leaves DID take ages oh GOD)
