Description well, I photographed the original black book and finished on the comp, just because it had to be done. It's not the greatest at this point, but this close to the original vision I had when drawing it a few *gulp* years back

well, thank you

The base image was actually drawn in my blackbook with prismacolor markers, pencil, and colored pencil. The piece was technically finished, but it still had that unfinished look, so I shot a photo of it with my digital camera and loaded it into photoshop.

first thing I did was clean up any hard edge lines, and touched up the notebook paper in the upper left. for that I just used the polygon lasso tool (click on the lasso tool and hold down, and the polygon lasso will show up - click on it). after I made any selection, I clicked the selection menu, and feathered in by 1 pixel, sometimes two.

The next part was the hardest. I traced all the three d letters using the pen tool. I made a path for each color, and then turned each path into a selection (and feather each selection by 1 pixel), and colored that section using mostly just the paintbrush at various pressures and opacity - best you can do experiment with it and see what it does. I did this section by section, letter by letter. is there a faster way? probably, but that's the way I work

Next, I went over all the black parts with paintbrush and or pencil tool, just to clean up, and the same for the white. then I made a mask around all the 3d letters - as to not keep them from being being painted - and I used the paintbrush tool - alternating between black and white with a larger, soft paintbrush - completing all the soft blends and bubbles. I then unmasked the letters and freehanded just a little bit of hightlights and shadows into the letters. I also used the dodge and burn tools to make shadows and highlights on the letters.

That's really about it - mostly basic tool functions, and just photoshop. nothing fancy really. it did take a little while to complete though be patient, and experiment. with photoshopt, theres probably 20 different ways to do one thing. if you can learn just two or three ways, there's not much you can't do with it.

hope that helps, and thanks a ton for the comment, I really appreciate it. take care

Brilliant! +fav!

ah really interesting work. I like the concept and the transition from 2D to 3D.
I do think the 3D looks a bit blurry though. I think the background having black and white makes the right part look a bit dreamy and gaussian. I'd prefer a more crisp defintion.

Otherwise very good work.

Thanks for taking the time man

I agree in a way, it is a tad soft, and I tend towards harder edged work. but to finish this I had to compromise with time and effort, because I have not the time I'd like to devote to this. the black book part that this is a painted over - the 3 dee was very 'transluscent'... I suppose this is just an excuse to cover my lacksidazical disposition.

Thanks again, sincerely appreciated,

yeah, and for real your graffiti art is way friggin cool, when i was a little younger i really wanted to do it so i practiced every day and copied stuff, but i gave up when kids 4 years younger then me where better at it. and nothing i did was all that great so ive kept to other 'traditional' arts.... anyways i really respect, and am impressed by your stuff.

Feelin' that second A and the H (upper case H's are usually a bitch for me...). The colors are lovely soft, yet nice and bright. Very nice.
