They're one piece held together by a piece of wood, which he holds against his palm. They're shaped to his hand and stay put really well!

Thank you! I too like some Jean and Wolverine. I'm actually the Jean cosplayer in this picture, not the photographer. My costume is from the X Men: First Class comic series. I may decide to cosplay Phoenix costume, but it's been done so many times I wanted to do a less cosplayed version of Jean.
