Description This is where I've been the last two weeks, working on this every second I got.

I've been trying to learn how to do background paintovers in the Makoto Shinkai style. I chose a pretty complicated one to start with xD but it has taught me a lot about backgrounds and painting, so I'm really glad I put the time and effort in and I hope you think it has a Makoto Shinkai look to it Honestly, I don't know how he manages to make so much great artwork to fill a whole movie xD

I worked so hard on every little bit of this painting from the individual leaves to the event that's happening in the scene, so enjoy it and zoom in and have a look around xD

Hi, thanks I used a paintover technique similar to Makoto Shinkai, I googled japan streets for the reference image and used that to paint this It took hours of painting all the tiny details to get to the finished result

Great!
I'm practising background like that myself (not close to realising it x'D) and it's really hard xD But you did a good job on all those details!
You maybe could have added a little more of those bluish reflections from the glowing symbol in the middle and add some of those typical Shinkaiesque highlight points on the edge of the pillars, ventilating machine, the bike...

But you really did a great job! I love the lighting~
