Good IntentionsA Gold/Silver/Crystal Pokémon Fanfiction
Sometimes I wonder if this is wrong. I watch you standing there alone in the cold, and wonder if that person is really you at all. That still and silent you doesn't feel the frigid wind, doesn't feel the pain of loneliness atop this mountain.
You smile sometimes.
I remember the day I met you. I was only an Eevee then. I had been a prize in Celadon City's Game Corner. I would peer out from behind the glass, watching the trainers rack up coins to trade in for Pokémon. I watched for weeks, waiting for the chance to grow alongside a trainer.
Then you came in. Our eyes met, and I could see the Champion's gears working in your mind. I was an Eevee after all, and as such I had quite a bit of potential. You didn't even waste your time playing the slots. You traded in your money (what did money matter to the Champion anyway?) for the amount of coins you would need to have me, and I was yours almost instantly.
In the coming months, I developed a closeness to you that I had never felt toward any other living being. You trained me hard, but kindly; we paid the day with hard-worked sweat, and the nights rewarded us with easy sleep. I remember you would hold me in your arms all through the night. I think that was when I knew what I wanted to evolve into.
I was so happy to learn you thought the same. My love for you drove me into my psychic evolution. As an Espeon I became sleek, strong and fast. Our bond intensified as we trained together and discovered my new abilities.
You didn't know it, but there were times when I would peek into your mind. I wanted you to share everything with me. I knew you would feel the same. I saw it then, that pain. I felt it when I saw the memory.
You were battling your rival. He was a handsome young man. You two were the same age at the time, around ten. It was a more-or-less friendly match, but he had caught you at a bad time. You were out at sea on a ship. "S.S. Anne", I think that was the name of the ship. You had just finished fighting all the trainers on the ship, and when your rival walked up to you for a challenge, you grudgingly accepted.
You were both down to your last Pokémon. You and your Pikachu were an incredible match, even in your disadvantaged state. Your rival and his Raticate were hanging on by a thread. A simply Quick Attack would have taken his Raticate out easily enough. But you were annoyed with him. He had shown up when your team was at its weakest. You were going to teach him a lesson. So you ordered Pikachu to deliver a devastating Thunder attack, and Raticate fell motionless to the cold floor of the ship.
Your rival recalled the Raticate, brushed it off as if nothing special had happened. But the next time you saw him, he was grieving. He had been in Lavender Town's Pokémon Tower. His Raticate was dead, and you knew that it was your order that had taken the Pokémon's life.
I knew that you had carried that pain with you always. I could feel it whenever I entered your mind. I wanted to take that pain away, take it upon myself if I had to. Then one day, when my powers had grown enough, I realized I could.
I took that memory away from you. You didn't know that I had done it, but that was okay. The memory was completely erased. When I looked into your mind, I knew that the pain had been erased as well. I had made you a little bit happier, and that made me happy too.
But there was more in your mind that caused you pain. You had taken away the Champion status from your rival, who had only had it for five minutes at most. You knew the pain you caused him when his grandfather completely overlooked him to praise you. You felt monstrous inside, as if your entire purpose in life had been to cause that young man (just a boy, really) pain.
So I took that memory from you too. I began sorting through all your memories, picking and choosing what to erase and what to keep. Every painful memory had to go. And you were all the happier for it.
Well, you were for a while, anyway. It wasn't long before I noticed that you could not hold conversations the way normal humans could. Your mom would talk to you about things you did in the past, and you became frustrated when you couldn't remember what she had been referring to. You didn't know why your rival hated you, and that caused you frustration as well.
I knew what I had to do then. I had to take you away from people. I would erase all memory of those frustrating people, and only keep those of me and your other Pokémon: the ones who only brought you joy. We fled to Mt. Silver, where there would be a Pokémon Center nearby for emergencies, but really no humans dared to travel to the top.
It's only us up here.
Sometimes I wonder if what I'm doing to you is wrong. I watch you standing there, motionless and blank-eyed, and wonder if that person is really you at all. That still and silent you doesn't feel the frigid wind because my Morning Sun warms you to your core. You don't feel the pain of loneliness atop this mountain, because I erased those emotions from you long ago.
You smile sometimes when I give you happy things to think about, and it's then I realize that this can only be right. I know what's best for you, and I will keep you safe here. Always.

Yeah... It like that time my Espeon put me in a three month coma because he noticed I wasn't sleeping enough. <3

That reminds me of "it's a good life," when the little omnipotent boy whipped up a blizzard that destroyed the entire town's crops because one of his family members mentioned how hot it was...
