I always preferred season 1 of this show, due to its unique "plastic" style they gave it. Season 2 looks too much like anime and it's harder recognize it from any other "anime-inspired" show, like Total Spies. But I do like this show, regardless of its style, because the storyline is just amazing! Oh gosh, I'm blabbing!!! Excellent picture nonetheless!

I was always intrested in this show, but I despised the original animation so much that it kept me from watching the actually series. However once they changed the animation style, I watched it and found that I realy liked the concept of it, I just wish they put more thought into it, and put a little more complexity into the storyline. Though I tend to always wish for more complexity from most western cartoons.
Great the pic, She has such a fierce expression I really love it!

Thank you
This show is actually one of my absolute favourite cartoons. It suffered severely from 4kidsitis since 4kids devours everything that is good and precious in the world and shits out concentrated blocks made of crying children. Thus the lack of complexity in the stories - really, this cartoon should have been aimed at an older audience. The sheer possibility and depth within the world of Perim is ASTOUNDING - and the writers did manage to slip in more mature storylines. For example, in one episode an Overworld creature learns a powerful attack and uses it to defend his village from Underworld raiders...and though it isn't directly said, he ended up destroying his entire village and killing everyone within in one fell swoop.
It really is a fantastic series so of course it got cancelled before it could reach its full potential - not that 4kids would have allowed that anyway. It inspired me to write a mini novella (up on FF.net) and everything, and the card game the show is based around is my absolute favourite card game. And I love CGs.
On the animation style; I am the exact opposite. From an animation standpoint, the anime style they switched to was severely lacking in quality as compared to the original Harmony/Flash animation. The animation quality in the first season is ASTOUNDING, given the tools they had to work with and the overall fluidity of the action scenes, the first two episodes not withstanding. I will happily admit to and laugh at the shoddy quality of the first two episodes, but any animated show's first episode will suck hairy monkey balls. The anime influenced style suffered from animators who just did not know how to properly animate the styles and the designs are TERRIBLE. Most of the characters are about to fall over or, as in Chaor's case, are apparently missing certain....ahem....parts. And the humans suffer from broken legs.
Overall from a semi-professionally trained animator and cartoonist, it was just....ouch. So much ouch.

Ya I always thought the show had sooooo much potential, There were so manys places they could have taken the show, but they just never did. It's So Sad when a great idea/concept is in the hand of PURE EVIL...

For me, I have just come to prefer Anime style overall, But that probably comes from me just being a Giant anime fan and therefor always seeing that style. Though you definatly know more then me when it comes to animation so I will take your word for it. And I suppose it could have been worse. It could have been CGI. That would have been way worse.(I really dislike CGI, especially if it's the animation style for a TV show. The only people in my opinion who do CGI well is Pixar.)As an animator how do you feel about CGI.

To each their own with the animation styles~ I know a LOT of people that dislike the flash style, and I'm actually not really fond of it myself. Most cartoons in that style, to me, are hard to watch. But the animators themselves did a really good job with it in Chaotic. The anime style could have been awesome too, they just didn't hire animators who knew how to use the style properly >_<
As for CG animation, it has its merits. One of my best friends is currently in her third year of computer animation at our college and she absolutely loves it. The problem with CG, however, is that TV show budgets don't really allow for the beautiful quality that Pixar and Dreamworks are capable of - instead a lot of them come out awkward looking like.....*barf*...Transformers Prime *MOREBARF*
On the same standing, some shows CAN work. Like Beast Wars and Reboot, both from the former Mainframe studios. By today's standards the animation is HILARIOUS. In Beast Wars Dinobot had to be cheated through doors (by cutting from him at a door to him already through the door) or use trick shots, all because the environments weren't modeled to his size. But back in the day those shows were MINDBLOWING. And they still hold up now, with character's emotions easily readable. I mean, compare the face of Jack Darby from TFPrime to Bob's face in Reboot....Reboot was a pioneer of CG Animation, the first fully CG tv cartoon. And Bob's face is more readable and relatable than the newly modeled Jack!
The problem with CG tv series is mostly in the studio. They think it's an easy cash-in medium and don't put enough money into it. With the resources at their hands good animators could work wonders - but most of the models for TV shows end up blank-faced with creepy movements.
The anime restyle for Chaotic would have been just fine if they got better character designers (Intress looks like a man and the human's ankles are broken...not to mention Tom and Kaz's bodies are EXACTLY the same with different clothes...s'all I'm sayin'.) and animators that knew how to use the style, eg. the Avatar people not the Totally Spies people.
Every style has it's ups and downs, especially if the medium isn't used correctly. I do have a huge respect for those who can animate well with Flash cause flash is a right bastard, but I prefer traditional hand-drawn myself.
Hee. I rambled.

No I enjoy listening to others ramble. ^_^
I totally forgot about Reboot, and Beast Wars, I love those shows! I used to watch them all the time when I was little.
You really now your skill, You seem like you would be able to go on forever, It's really fun to read your comments, and actually learn something.
I wish I new more about animation, Heck I wish I could animate, Expect I am a fail at drawing.
I agree that that most TV shows with CGI look akward, and I guess it makes sense that the reason for this is lack of budget/Great animators.
Regardless they are still difficult to watch.
Well, anyways, Your picture looks excellent, I am glad you are drawing so often, since for the longest time you rarely posted anything. Keep on drawing, you are amazing at it!!! ^_^
