Description
"I've been a bad girl... But I deserve this..."This is the genuine Dollface from Twisted Metal Black.
I. Do. Not. Like. Twisted Metal 2012.
It completely changed the plot and the backstories of the three main characters. Which is also horrifically mentally challenged. The Twisted Metal series was introduced and kept as a game within a game, as Calypso would say "The Twisted Metal Games" which was basically a series of duels to the death(s). 2012, however, did not keep up with the past series. It was like a complete reboot, in which this diehard fan of TM did not appreciate.
And so I was inspired to recreate the true Dollface. Where she received the mask as a punishment.
God, her original backstory killed me. When she was young, her parents worked 15-hour days, so she was always alone. But when she was about ten years old, her mother passed away mysteriously, and her father would always mutter to Dollface, "It was all your fault..." After completely college, she was working for a man named Mr. Creole. In a moment, she accidentally spilled coffee over some important spreadsheets and thus Mr. Creole hammered the mask to her skull nail by nail. After becoming overwhelmed with abandonment and depression, she was left at the Blackfield Asylum where Calypso approached her with the key that would be able to unlock the mask as long as she entered the Twisted Metal games to earn the key herself.

I'm a genuine TM fan, since 1995. I actually won an aware from David Jaffe (creator of the TM series) as the biggest TM fan... and I enjoyed the new TM. This is just a different reboot, just like TMBlack was a different reboot for fans of the TM1/2 series. I didn't appreciate Dollface replacing Mr. Ash (from TM1) either.
That being said I wasn't too much of a fan of the characters in the new game, but at least it didn't wipe the slates clean. The other games are still relevant.

Props to you, then
That's actually pretty cool, in all honesty.
Yeah, but I like to handwave TMBlack like it was all a part of Needles Kane's imagination. I guess that was what got it by, in my opinion.
As many characters came and went, along with different vehicles, there was just so much change from game to game. Even as the developers change, there was no line to follow other than the plot, which was centrally a deathmatch with souped-up vehicles. I didn't really see all of that in 2012. It felt more like an...individual relay. So Needles/Marcus was kept somewhat the same, but I didn't like the name change. It kind of threw off what most of the other games built up, but that being said, the game DID change a lot from installment to installment.

That's the neat thing about the TM series. That each story reigns true in it's own aspect, but they interconnect loosely. Regaurding Needles/Marcus's names. In TMHeadOn it's said they're the same person, Needles being a split personality off of Marcus, so I can see that being the reason why they just decided to call him Marcus in the new game.

All that is completely true. But for the players who don't know the whole Needles/Marcus ordeal wouldn't be able to understand that who "Marcus doesn't live here anymore" scene, or they could just make up something to go along. Even though that was pretty smart to do. Like Needles was the one that overtook Marcus to become the killer.
Bringing new stuff to the plate is never a bad thing, I just wish the information that was already there in the beginning would be left alone. I mean, there were those reoccurring characters whose story could not progress any longer and thus not brought back again, but having the vehicles stay in the series would be a stronger interconnection.
But that is just what I want from a long-running series. My opinion, I guess.

I really wish they'd stuck to one storyline. Maybe had a spinoff like Black once in a while, but every game almost feels entirely different in Gameplay AND story. It's unfortunate to those who become attached.
I was ruined that after another game Mr. Grimm wasn't the Grim Reaper that he used to be. So I can really relate to what you're saying.

Exactly. Little spinoffs to keep newcomers or hardcore games interested because I can see where it could probably get boring with the same people, same stories, same wishes etc. But changing it almost entirely while replacing characters and changing them? That's a bit much. Like Dollface. Especially on 2012. Instead she was a supermodel obsessed with vanity and pretty much got the mask voluntarily and went by the name Krista Sparks-- a name associated with Calypso's daughter.
But that's why they could use spinoffs. But every once in awhile. I mean, TMSmall Brawl? Really?
Complete agreement on Mr. Grimm. The whole facepaint ordeal did not go over well. And now matter how many times his story was reiterated, I always loved the idea of the grim reaper with that insatiable thirst for human souls... It just did not work in 2012.

Yeah I didn't get why they changed Dollface's name to Krista. As a Krista fan who liked her because she was a strong woman capible of telling her father that he was a mean asshole for being horrible to humanity...it was a big step down.

It was really confusing as well. I mean, how was there ever a connection between Dollface and Krista Sparks? They were completely separate entities with very different personalities to par.
I just don't think it was a very good move on the developer's part. Was it like they suddenly forgot who the characters were? I just don't understand.

I think it was more tuned for the young boys who would play the games and not really as geared towards the hardcore fanbase. Except...their names.

As in an attempt to bring more, and perhaps fresher, players to the battlefield?
So it could be said that the "2012 reboot" was just another attempt to make more money-- more profitable gain.
Of course it would.

Looks like something out of Neon Genesis Evangelion's last episode. Or the first NGE movie.

Haha~ Yeah, I can totally see that, too.
But I'd have to say... Twisted Metal is probably just as mind-raping as Evangelion XD

Uhh... NGE drove me insane. Like, really. I can't think of what would happen to my mind with something like that. But then again, it was only the last episode when I tried to make sense of it... While watching it.

To the creator of NGE, I would like to say one thing. You proved that Insanity is contagious.
