I'm sure you have, Bradford Pears are a variety of this tree....this is just a really old, gigantic one with moss. They bloom around the same time peaches do.

They are purely ornamental (they dont make pears)and are often planted in yards and along streets. They bloom before they leaf out

I know. Its ridiculous. We only cut down our trees when they might fall on the house.
