Description
These reminded me of a story one of my college history professors told about a certain General (Peckingham, I think) that had died on the field here in the States. Out of respect for his rank the American Generals wanted to send his body back home overseas for a proper burial so they stuffed him into a barrel of rum and sent him on his way. Unfortunately the ship's crew did not realize there was a general in the barrel so they drank half the rum...leaving the lower part of the remains perfectly preserved but the upper obliterated by decay.Related content

Wow. That's definitely a story. I'd for surely feel sick after finding that out though.

I don't remember if the crew was told or not....if they were they probably never drank rum again for the rest of their lives. (or at least they'd check the barrel first)

That's a bit of a gruesome story. But interesting none the less.

Yeah, I know. Professor Miller loved telling stories like this. We hardly used our textbooks in his class so we had to pay attention to everything he said. He was a perfectionist too and actually measured our research papers to make sure we had 1-inch margins. He would deduct points if we did not. (yes, I predate Microsoft Office and had to use a real word-processor)

I always had professors that threatened they'd do that, but I always played with the margins to prove they were just empty threats.
The ones that tell interesting stories are the best professors though
