Incredible detail and absolutely stunning work on the surface texture and lighting. The reflections are spot on. I feel as if I could reach out and feel the cool metal underneath my fingertips. Would love to see this kind of quality in an image of samus in her armor. (or out of it)

Yeh i have thought about modelling samus. Although i dont want to push for a more difficult project and not have results like this in end. So it's still a maybe. Btw your very good with your english and description.

Well I certainly encourage you to go ahead and try. Even if it comes out looking bad, you'll still learn from your mistakes and do better on any subsequent work. Oh, and thanks for the compliment. I'm usually not that descriptive but good art deserves a good complement.

Hey, quick question if you have the time - in your comments you said you modeled in 3ds and then adding lighting etc in C4d, how did you import your 3ds file to C4d??

Rustythread In reply to Auraliza [2008-07-13 22:44:47 +0000 UTC]
I extracted the model as a .obj from 3ds. And imported it as an .obj with C4D. Then i fixed up any model errors. Applied some materials and lighting and i was sweet.

thanks
iv hada go with the tut, i used just an occlusion base for the ground. im guna replace the glow with an advance lighting override to make it look more 'neon' plus saves me using video post
note me and ill send you my email for that texture

lolz... nice 1 pyro brah. This actually looks pretty damn sick. I gotta agree with Silver in that the Uffuzi HDRI probably wasn't the most realistic choice but it still looks very nice overall. The floor looks quite nice too but i think you should have used some displacement and a light bump channel rather than a heavy bump and no displace. I would also have liked to see either some DOF in here or usage of that "Glow" post-effect just to give a little bit more atmospheric "depth". It's also a shame that the object glow from the plasma material doesn't show up in the reflection on the ground but that's C4D... not you, so don't worry bout it
i reckon it could have also done nicely with some post-proc in photoshop just to add a bit of a faded shadow to the outer edges of the picture to give it that authentic feel of a physical camera. Impressive overall... look forward to see future works bro

I would love to do all those things but im actually quite happy with this outcome. I would only change hdri if i could find a suitable one because i cant find any good ones.

hmm, it looks nice. change the HDRI reflection, i don't think that metroid game has like a environment like that.the scaling is a bit wrong too i think, it needs to be 5 times bigger.
make bumps onto the ball, coz you know how samus rolls a lot, so make it dirty or somethin.
