Description EDIT: This tutorial may be outdated, as the version of MMD used here was 7.39 with MME v 0.28. Sorry if you find inaccuracies. m(__)m also feel free to update it, as I don't use MMD much anymore lol. orz

Thanks to Erica for suggesting this.

This ""tutorial"" aims at showing you how to use MikuMikuEffect's .fx effect files. I think you've noticed that there were two types of MikuMikuEffects, am I right? The ones that you load as accessories (.x effect files) -these are used mostly as... hmmm, video effects- and the ones that you apply individually- mostly on models- on what you want (.fx effects files.)

Some examples of:
.x effect files: Diffusion, SSAO, Gaussian Blur, Dept Of Field, Thermography...
.fx effect files: Basically almost all shaders, Wood, Glass...

*Note: Some effects, such as DiscoLight need both accessory file and .fx file to work.

F.A.Q
Q.Where do I download MME and how do I install it?
A.You can find MME on this page. Unizp the file in your root folder. You ought to have the three dll files, otherwise nothing will work.
It should look like this .

Q. I've loaded an effect, but it does not appear on the screen/looks weird! What should I do?
A. If it's an effect that needs both an .x file and an .fx file to work (see examples above), see if you loaded the .x file properly. The x file has to be loaded BEFORE the .fx file.
If it's just an .fx file, make sure that the version of MME and MMD you use are the most recent. They keep on being updated so be careful and check them out often. Also, your effect must have its original name (in other words, it shouldn't have been renamed- D O N ' T, ever, rename effect files!) and the folder containing your effect must have all its files. If all those conditions are respected but your effect still doesn't work, the problem might come from your graphic card.

Q. What are the technical requirements to use MikuMikuEffect then?
A. If you have the technical requirements for MMD v. 7.39 and newer versions, you should be able to install and run MME without major trouble. Still, can check out this article or this other article .
To see your graphic card's settings, click on MMEffect in the right top of your windows, then select Log Windows and a pop-up should appear with information about your graphic card should appear.
**Note to Windows XP/2000 users: Windows XP and 2000 being considered obsolete (thus not supported anymore), the chances newer MME/MMD versions would work are getting smaller and smaller.
Also, please keep in mind that MikuMikuEffect will not work with MMD v. 5.24 and older versions.

Personally I highly recommend to install MME, since using the other method is reaaally time consuming.

(sorry for the late response, I'm kinda inactive on dA atm.)
Are you sure that your computer (graphic card) supports this kind of effects ?

I'm sure it's fine. I have a very recent computer. It must be my version of MMD. I updated to 8.05 (I think) and it's simpler but doesn't run many effects other than shaders, autoluminous and etc.

Oh, so you use the latest version of MMD. And do you use the latest of MME too ?

I put the same 7.39 version of MME into my new version of MMD. Is there an update of MME for the MMD that I use. It doesn't really matter for me. I mostly use effects and stuff in photoshop

Graphic card compatibility issues probably, or your version of MME might not be recent enough, have you tried using the other method ?

Well, that says it all: your graphic card isn't powerful enough to support MME therefore it'll not display some effects, or not display them correctly. Have you tried using one of these effects ruuneka.deviantart.com/art/MME… ?

colorfulsparklelover In reply to ??? [2013-05-06 16:27:40 +0000 UTC]

how do i make mme work? i have a problem with my video card.. what video card do you use for win xp?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ruuneka In reply to colorfulsparklelover [2013-12-05 14:26:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh... Well, actually I don't really know what graphic card brands are recommended... I know that ATI cards are fine... BUT I'm sure that you must have AT LEAT 1gb of graphic card otherwise the effects won't work. oAO
Though if you use Win XP, that basically means that your computer is not a recent one, is it ? 'Cause that might be the problem~

I do not think there's a x86 installer. All the versions of MME I've seen are portable, since there's no .exe file... Only dll's. :3

This is probably completely unrelated, but whenever I load Diffusion.x it just shows up as a tiny red square. Any idea on how to fix this?

Ruuneka In reply to TheAwesomeMooMoo [2013-04-10 15:35:14 +0000 UTC]

Maybe that just mean that your computer does not support MME. Does it do the same with other effects ?

TheAwesomeMooMoo In reply to Ruuneka [2013-04-10 17:38:18 +0000 UTC]

No, not all of them. KiraKira, FallGlass, and DOF work, but some of them are glitchy and some won't even appear, like Breath, RainLite, and Sakura.

Ruuneka In reply to Xenaleena [2013-01-17 20:18:47 +0000 UTC]

I think I know what the problem is. Could you check if there's a .x file in that effect's folder ? If yes, then try to load it instead of this .fx file. :3

Xenaleena In reply to Ruuneka [2013-01-17 20:26:57 +0000 UTC]
