Description EDIT: This tutorial may be outdated, as the version of MMD used here was 7.39 with MME v 0.28. Sorry if you find inaccuracies. m(__)m also feel free to update it, as I don't use MMD much anymore lol. orz

Thanks to Erica for suggesting this.

This ""tutorial"" aims at showing you how to use MikuMikuEffect's .fx effect files. I think you've noticed that there were two types of MikuMikuEffects, am I right? The ones that you load as accessories (.x effect files) -these are used mostly as... hmmm, video effects- and the ones that you apply individually- mostly on models- on what you want (.fx effects files.)

Some examples of:
.x effect files: Diffusion, SSAO, Gaussian Blur, Dept Of Field, Thermography...
.fx effect files: Basically almost all shaders, Wood, Glass...

*Note: Some effects, such as DiscoLight need both accessory file and .fx file to work.

F.A.Q
Q.Where do I download MME and how do I install it?
A.You can find MME on this page. Unizp the file in your root folder. You ought to have the three dll files, otherwise nothing will work.
It should look like this .

Q. I've loaded an effect, but it does not appear on the screen/looks weird! What should I do?
A. If it's an effect that needs both an .x file and an .fx file to work (see examples above), see if you loaded the .x file properly. The x file has to be loaded BEFORE the .fx file.
If it's just an .fx file, make sure that the version of MME and MMD you use are the most recent. They keep on being updated so be careful and check them out often. Also, your effect must have its original name (in other words, it shouldn't have been renamed- D O N ' T, ever, rename effect files!) and the folder containing your effect must have all its files. If all those conditions are respected but your effect still doesn't work, the problem might come from your graphic card.

Q. What are the technical requirements to use MikuMikuEffect then?
A. If you have the technical requirements for MMD v. 7.39 and newer versions, you should be able to install and run MME without major trouble. Still, can check out this article or this other article .
To see your graphic card's settings, click on MMEffect in the right top of your windows, then select Log Windows and a pop-up should appear with information about your graphic card should appear.
**Note to Windows XP/2000 users: Windows XP and 2000 being considered obsolete (thus not supported anymore), the chances newer MME/MMD versions would work are getting smaller and smaller.
Also, please keep in mind that MikuMikuEffect will not work with MMD v. 5.24 and older versions.

Personally I highly recommend to install MME, since using the other method is reaaally time consuming.

Welp, now you know. MMD can be tricky sometimes but it's sorta worth it to see everything working like as expected.Β
Good luck with your MMD things.

You need to make sure you are applying it to the right areas.Β
Make sure you have a recent version that has the accessories tab (Accessible in the camera/light/accessories is selected via model manipulation.)

Your computer probably doesn't support MME. Try using diffusion 6 effect instead?
Or try updating your MME?

I can't use .fx files. My computer is a dick and I need to use a ripple water effect that's a .fx. Can I turn it into a .x anyway?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ruuneka In reply to ASK-Rina-Kagamine [2014-02-08 03:26:57 +0000 UTC]

To be honest, I don't think it's possible, since .fx and .x files are waaay too different, maybe you could try to find earlier versions of the effect (early versions of effects tend to have more chances to work on more computers -e.g. Adult shader v 0.13 vs the newer ones- but you also have to be lucky) ?

Sorry fΓΌr mein Bad Englisch! But that's not true. In MikuMikuMoving can I use some effects that are not displayed in MMD. It has something to do with MME. The do not want ATake some effecte.

Ruuneka In reply to Entzminger500 [2014-01-15 15:49:18 +0000 UTC]

I did not quite understand what you said (sorry ;/// but since I have never used MikuMikuMoving, I don't know if effects work with it.
Or do you mean that you have some effects which work with MMM but not with MMD ?
(Maybe you should write in German, I know a little of it)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Entzminger500 In reply to Ruuneka [2014-01-16 08:35:03 +0000 UTC]

You've said yes to that one some effects can not load. Here is my tutorial, unfortunately it is in German. But you can load all.Β

www.youtube.com/watch?v=WojB1I… Β Β Β  4:29

Effect only X file upload as an accessory.
Then the charged Effect Accessory blow out at MMEffect and LADN the fx file for it. Since you do not understand German, they look at that video. It really works. One can find all effecte LADN. It must be present for the effect only X and fx file.

With MikuMikuMoving you can save these off the same, but there are not as many effecte for the skin of the model. Here is the link: sites.google.com/site/moggproj…

Ruuneka In reply to Entzminger500 [2014-01-20 00:25:56 +0000 UTC]

So you are basically speaking about MMM effects working in MMD and Effects which both need .fx and .x file to work ?
I'm really slow at understanding, sorry o_o

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Entzminger500 In reply to Ruuneka [2014-01-21 03:22:49 +0000 UTC]

What do you mean? I personally can not create effects. Have all the time but worked only with MMM and then figured out how to MMD effects but can use. In MMD you need fx and x files. First you invite X. Then you go with MME and loads the fx file.
