My cover of NeinCubed 's map of Red Texas during the Gulf Crisis . I am going to copy his rundown of the basic history below:

America speedruns manifest destiny (they win 1812 and brutally crush Mexico a bit earlier, they also buy Alaska early too).This causes the issue where state capacity hasn’t really caught up to their expansion and the federal government isn’t aware of this. So in an attempt to increase social cohesion they begin the process of Anglicization and establish English as the national language (this occurs with the passing of the ‘The not Le’ act, which basically makes English literacy tests mandatory in order to vote and establishes English as the sole national language).
The Quebeckers revolt because of this and the federal government goes to clamp down. Out west the newly acquired pacific states attempt to begin a process of anglicization—whereby wealthy families marry American settlers so that they can ensure their wealth doesn’t eventually get repossessed by the government—but upon seeing that Quebec is revolting, and realizing that the federal government has little to no oversight in the western territory, they renege on this practice and organize secession.
The south—having grown increasingly anxious of Northern Expansion— sees this as their best chance to secede: which they do. Initially they attempt to coax Texas into joining but Marxist propaganda and general social tensions stalls her admission into the confederation. For now, the landed elite and the "desperados" are embroiled in the quasi-class war. The confederate federal government initially attempts to organzie an invasion force to seize texas, but due to each state being "dependent yet sovereign" very few volunteers join the national army.
In the far north the British have reclaimed British Columbia on the pretext that they are “occupying it until the American situation settles down” (they keep it until the 1960s). The Russians likewise reoccupy Alaska.
The First Rodeo
Fast forward a bit, Brown and Douglass begin organizing a plan of militant slave revolts in a Texan saloon when they hear a drunk German rambling about linen and Hegel. Marx then intervenes in their conversation and they begin to formally organize a revolutionary vanguard, at the time they call it “The Red Gang”.
The confederates, now fearful of a red wave spreading throughout plantations, invade Texas with insufficient troops. The Red Gang organizes and begins marching into the confederacy. Due to having such a diverse coalition they’re able to fit in almost everywhere and incite a number of slave revolts. Each revolt sees their numbers grow until you get somewhat of a Haiti situation.
All the while, the Union has finally subdued the quebeckers, they’ve repealed the ‘The not Le’ act and are now marching into the South from the north. The American federal government undergoes a series of centralized reforms limiting the power of states and abolishing the presidency (The cabinet is the sole executive and it is chosen by congress) out of fear that one man could be so stupid (hence the term Polkist).
Brown and Sherman eventually run into one another and formulate a plan to bisect the south. At the same time the Mexican Empire has been set up by the French and is engaging in a northern reconquista.
The Confederates at first believe they can hold off until the Mexicans crush Texas, but as time passes they see this as less and less likely. They begin mass-spamming unconditional surrender to the Union in hopes that this will cause the union to go to war with Texas due to overlapping claims.
One of these attempts at unconditional surrender arrives to Sherman who accepts. He gives the Texans the go ahead to leave the south in an event that is called “Sherman’s Gambit”. From here the Texans focus on the Mexican Empire and wage what they term a “Pueblo war”. The war eventually ends with the signing of the Treaty at Pedro’s Villa (some guy’s house, but everyone now thinks it’s an actual location). Emperor Norton of California (he wasn’t chosen but no one really opposes him either) threatens to intervene because he sees the Texan annexation of Baja to be ontologically opposed to Californian ambitions.

Now fast forward a bit, Reconstruction goes crazy in the Union as seceders are ineligible to be United States citizens and can hold no authority within the nation. America and Texas share the warmest relations on the North American continent and DC gives up on the idea of national reunification through war. DC then begins reaching out to her former secessor states to draft the Continental Union, what would eventually become NATO.
California then goes to war with Spain to distract from simmering inequality and annexes both the Philippines and Puerto Rico. Texas threatens France to pay back the money she stole from Haiti—this is the start of a long-term friendship between the two states.
Next World War 1 breaks out just like our timeline except america doesn’t get involved. Most things happen almost exactly the same. The Russian revolution occurs but collapses under its own weight as they maintain the strategy of “neither piece nor war”. This sees the Germans having to push deeper and deeper into Russia, while at the same time the French and British are pushing into them.
Germany then erupts into democratic revolt under the banner of the spartacists who sign peace with Britain (under the assumption that they will desire to maintain the balance of power). This, naturally, pisses off the French and sees a fermentation of far-right thought in France as a reaction to the German Socialists. The Integralists secure political power in France and execute a pre-emptive strike against the Germans to prevent them from remobilizing.
Britain now stands divided. Her empire is still reeling from the near-death blows of the first world war but if she chooses neutrality then France will become the master of Europe—her indecision is a decision: France shatters Germany.
A New Order
Fast forward a lot, the French have begun reconstructing a new order in Europe and have tied the struggle against communism as a new Crusade. With a renewed fervor they push into Russia under the pretext that they are stabilizing the warring states—this is referred to as “The Culling of the Red Cossacks” and sees a mass migration of Russian Cossacks to the Texan heartland.
At the same time the Japanese are expanding their claims and interests in China and have similarly begun the complete eradication and expulsion of all communists within their empire and puppet states. This is another mass-migration event to Texas and the reason Tejano English holds a lot of Chinese root words. Seeing that the tide has shifted against the Red Wave, the famous Texan Antonio Gramsci announces that “The old world is dying, and the new world has perished in a miscarriage. Now is a time of mourning”. They begin to develop an atom bomb.
The British empire at this point in time is in a state of disarray. Australia and India are the bulwarks. The crown attempts to appease the masses and reform into an Imperial Federation but the Australians reject the deal, seeing Indians as their inferiors. The Indians then revolt, which sees the empire default on a number of debts.
This sees the British sell their west African possessions to the French, and grant independence to their East African states.
The 2nd American republic takes this as a chance to demand a referendum on British Columbia. They lose but the Texan secret service rigs the vote. Now the British empire is just the main islands, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. All of whom would execute a national divorce in the 1982. Ireland, with French support, would leave a year after.
Fast forward a bit, NAFTA is presented to the continental congress and vetoed by the Mexican Empire, Texas has enough of their shit and assassinates all their political leaders within a week. This drives the country into chaos and Texas begins to move in under the pretext of restoring order.
