I did this around a year ago. It took a few attempts and I had to get first each time. On my first attempt I remember Toad getting in front right at the end of the last lap of the 48th race, it was rage inducing but I always remain calm when it comes to video games. Each attempt from start to finish assuming you don't take breaks in between races took an average of about 2 hours.
