I love the elfic design on left;about the girl in the middle,I can see her playing some high tech-speeding sport;but the cyborg is awesome, her pose and expression shouts the so dangerous she might be.The disc object on her shoulder looks funny,it seems as a small UFO stuck on

I like the outfit on the left. This would make a very cool pin-up all by itself.

i LOVE the one in the middle!!!! its almost EXACTLY what i've been picturing for a suit design that i've been toying with for a while now... 'cept my gauntlets and leggings are more "padded" like sparring gear instead of being "metallic"

What guides do you use to create these poses? I have favorited a few of these types of images because of the poses and unique designs. And info you could give me?

Hmm, don't use guides per say. Just turn a 8.5x11 piece of paper 90degrees and start draw'n.

I have drawn literally thousands of characters like this over my drawing career. It's essentially second nature to me.

If you don't use guidelines, how did you first start? I mean, there are those that don't use guidelines when they first start drawing; I understand that. But have you ever used them? And if so, which ones? The constructive forms and poses of those bodies look astounding; that's why I'm asking.

I basically start each figure with the head and work down. Drawing the head first helps with establishing the proportions your going to use.

I did make up a "mannequin" version of a figure later on, then just duplicated it and drew the outfit elements over it in photoshop (you'll see what I mean when I start uploading them).

My advice, draw your basic shapes very light, then once proportion and flow are established, go in and start playing with details, erasing your sketch lines as you go, replacing them with bolder lines that are part of your final drawing.

I need to start some fire in my mind first [smile]. That's another way of saying "inspiration." That's why I save the favorites I do. You're drawings are very amazing. They remind me of some of the figures that are in my "How to draw Manga" books, though I wouldn't call it, "How "TO" draw Manga...", if you know what I mean. 95% of the time, I usually start with the head. And after I was critiqued about one of my videos on another website, I found out a more easier way of sketching out my figures, using only my arm and not my wrist, since the wrist is unsteady, though others may beg to differ, which is perfectly acceptable since all are different.

I haven't been drawing all of my life. So just to see the sketch of what I want can sometimes amaze me because a few years of drawing to me could be a walk in the park to someone who has been doing it all his or her life. The head is, first, most important. I also believe it sets the stage for everything else afterward. I've heard about Photoshop. Yet I don't know how to necessarily use it. Sometimes I have to work my way around certain situations, sort of like, thinking outside the box.

Details are interesting as well [I wonder how magnificient I can make a character]. Some people draw characters down to the finest detail. The last paragraph you wrote out is a basic principle that I've exercised before. I guess the only thing I need to "keep going at" is experience, right?

Yeah practice is always the key component to doing anything well. Keep at it.

Very true. Practice is most important. You keep at it as well. We always need it.

I know you have buckets and buckets of these, but it'd be cool to hear a little bit about each one. Or even just a few that stand out to you.
