Description
I’ve decided to experiment with the Trioctave formula by applying it as a template to some of my favourite media franchises, adapting and reimagining their systems to their closest approximations and/or equivalents.This time ‘round, we cover one of my earliest influences in franchises with a dedicated “many elements” formula, in this case inspired by the real-world classical elements: Golden Sun!
For those unaware, the Golden Sun series features an intricate magic system known as Alchemy. Some individuals, including the games’ protagonists, are gifted with a rare power known as “Psynergy,” giving these “Adepts” abilities sourced from one of the setting’s four elemental forces: Venus (Earth), Mars (Fire), Jupiter (Wind), and Mercury (Water).
These characteristics can be further augmented with the aid of the elusive creatures known as “Djinn” (singular “Djinni”), each of whom is a living embodiment of one of the elements; by “setting” a Djinni to themself, an Adept can augment the scope of Psynergy skills they can use, unlocking stronger variants of their natural abilities or even gaining completely new ones depending on the alchemical combination.
This diagram showcases the four elements of Alchemy in the world of Weyard, as well as the various synergies between them, as translated through a Trioctave-based lens:
Petr + Spor => Venus
Pyr + Orykt => Mars
Ouran + Vront => Jupiter
Ner + Kryos => Mercury
The other eleven diagrams in this experiment show the connections between Trioctave arcs as Golden Sun’s elements, as well as the two types of synergies between them.
