Description
I’ve decided to experiment with the Trioctave formula by applying it as a template to some of my favourite media franchises, adapting and reimagining their systems to their closest approximations and/or equivalents.First up, a series with a similar “eight element” theme: Skylanders. Figuring out where each of the elements of Skylands aligns with the arcs of the Trioctave was simpler than expected, with a wee bit of “tinkering” to accommodate:
Zen => Neutral: Apart from applying to all non-elemental things in Skylands, this also covers all chase variants, both in-game and “toy only”
Lau’nal => Dark (Skylands): This was a straight one-to-one alignment, no tinkering needed; this also encompasses “Dark Skylander” variants
Sol’eos => Light (Skylands): Another direct one-to-one alignment, no tinkering needed; this also includes “LightCore Skylander” variants
Yru’urs => Special: This is where there isn’t a straight-up counterpart to Yru’urs in terms of Skylander elements, so instead it applies to “Legendary Skylander” variants and Minis
Vront => Magic: While there are electricity-based themes in other elements, most often Air and Tech, Vront is first and foremost the Spark Elemental, which also covers things like creation and energetic power; since Skylands is created from raw magical energy, it makes sense for the Magic element to align with the Vront arc
Pyr => Fire: This one’s easy
Orykt => Tech: Orykt is the Rock elemental, yet its themes also cover themes such as artifice, creativity, and discovery; this means the Tech element has the strongest alignment to Orykt
Petr => Earth: Another easy one
Spor => Life: “I can’t believe it’s not harder!”
Ner => Water: Since ice themes are part of the Water element in Skylanders, Ner also borrows the frost-specific themes of Kryos in terms of this experiment; “Why?”, you may ask? Well…
Kryos => Undead: While it may seem taking the “Frost” out of the Frost elemental makes no sense, Kryos also symbolises other themes like prudence, meditation, and the arcane; at a push, this makes it the most likely ”natural” fit for the Undead element (and none of the others were a close enough match, so there’s that…)
Ouran => Air: Easy as Air Nomad fruit pie (yes, I know the Avatarverse is unrelated, but… look, it fit the theme of the joke, aight? ^_^
The line grid shows the Skylanders’ elemental weaknesses as applied to the Trioctave formula.
