Description I just had to show this one. Larsen did this pic for Robert at a con one day. And Robert comes to me and says "Yep, I'm gonna have YOU ink it." I said "hells yes I wills!" And I went to town on it, basically I printed his pencils in blueline then changed what I wanted, added things here and there, just beefing the pic up a bit with a blue pencil, then I inked it. So technically this is a collaboration cover, not really a straight up he drew it, I inked it kinda cover. Tons of fun though, I love drawing over Larsen. I always shrink his fists considerably but they still look huge, and that's awesome! HAHA!

Great stuff. Definately not just you tracing the pencils. You added a lot of great stuff to an already great sketch.

wow! you make eric larsen's pencils look like your pencils! I saw the original and couldn't figure out how he had contributed.

You Ottley'd Larsen! That's kind of cool, actually... Can still see the Larsen in there, but there's no denying that it has your stamp, either... Kind of like McF over your pencils.

You must have been bored. The clouds are amazing, and I'm still gazing "out" at the cityline and expect someone to look out a window.

This is awsome!
It has a very Art Adams quality to it in the tight detailed line work and oversized perpectives going on. You guys should do more work together.

Dood, I'd be pissed if someone altered my pencils with their inks!! JK, looks great, it would be amazing to ink someone like Eric Larson's pencils. Amazing as always, thanx for sharing.

I didn't think that anyone could really complement Larsen's style, but you pulled it off very well. I think that your decision to work on it a bit instead of just straight inks is what made the difference. The final piece is just great.

Hey Ryan, I have a quick question towards your art. How do you get your buildings and backgrounds so clean and straight? Do you use a program or is it done the old fashioned way? Your backgrounds are always awesome and I would like to get better at my own eventually.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RyanOttley In reply to Gaston25 [2009-11-19 13:44:32 +0000 UTC]

No program here. I use a ruler, it's as simple as that.

What kind of pens do you use? I use the Faber-Castell set and they never seem to come out as sharp and professional as I would like.

when you posted the colors of this, i studied this a bit ( as much as my tired mind can) and realized how muh more organic you made his mechanical style. It's really a damn cool marriage of styles. Makes me think of how much you're diggin the doing finals (of a sort) over art that's laid out for ya. You're doin such a good job on Haunt, it lends itself really well to this piece!
