Description
Here you can view the first batch of the reference sheets for my upcoming comic story, OVERCAST: Penumbra. Penumbra will take place in 1887, in the Luton countryside, and will be an introductory piece for the rest of the OVERCAST pieces. Although Penumbra is not meant to be a short minicomic, I expect to experiment with it a lot, especially regarding drawing various clothes, perspectives, and expressions, and to practice my storytelling skills and gain a wider experience on the whole. I really don’t want to talk about the lore too much, as the story revolves around a murder mystery that I’d like to keep as spoiler-free as possible, but I am more than happy to share that it is going to start somewhere around the middle of October when I’m going to have more time from university. If you are interested, I definitely recommend staying updated!
OVERCAST: Penumbra characters
/From lower left to right/
Balthazar Crawfield: Often called ‘the detective of enigmas’, Balthazar Crawfield is drawn to the mysteries of the past, a man who thrives in the dark, and with an ominous aura that radiates doom from the beginning. Elegant and intelligent as he comes, Balthazar is a cynical thinker with melancholic tendencies, an educated outcast, and forever haunted by the terrible wrongs in the world. With a withdrawn and sullen nature that could make snarling badger friendly in comparison, Balthazar has a more emotionally sensitive side he keeps hidden, and even could be charismatic and engaging if he tries to.
Nicholas Hunter: The young butler of Baron Francis Milton, and his close confidante who served the Milton family since he was a lad. As a well-mannered and refined gentleman, Nicholas has an unexceptionable presence with a nature often seen as cold and unnerving - always making him the center of suspicion. Alongside his nonchalant disposition, Nicholas has a knack for being cunning and calculating, a trait that definitely puts him at an advantage when the life of the Marshburn estate turns upside-down.
Francis Milton: The Baron and the head of the Marshburn estate in the Luton countryside, Lord Milton gives the impression of a polite and inviting nobleman, always hospitable, seen as smiling, the heart of the Milton family. Known for his past generosity and philanthropy, the Baron is well-respected and liked amongst the staff members, and although he nurtures a fine relationship with the family members, his spending habits can be a source of conflict.
Ameila Milton - The young daughter of Lord Milton, Ameila is curious, intelligent, and sharp-minded, and is both kind and brave in her ways. Her passion for helping out the locals and donating to charities makes her take after her father, with a knack for supporting the less fortunate meanwhile paving her own path to adulthood.
Eustance Milton: The older sibling of Amelia and the only son of Lord Milton, heir of the Marshburn estate. An elegant, lavishing and well-spoken gentleman, who never fails to make a lasting impression on those whom he meets. The head of the community, famous for his glamorous parties and countless of outside activities, Eustance is never the one seen without company.
Beryl Milton - The Lady of the House, a headstrong and strict woman, the wife of Lord Francis Milton and the mother of Amelia and Eustance. Lady Milton is both alluring and unapproachable in her manners, preferring the traditions instead of her husband’s passion for enriching the life of the local people, and is vocal about her viewpoints.
Victoria Milton - Lord Milton’s sister, known for her strong-willed nature. With her judging gaze and sharp words, Victoria is always ready to correct Francis Milton, although, the ones with keen eyes could notice a sense of familiarity and support between the two, despite their ongoing disputes.
