EDIT : This is my way on doing skies, it may be long and tedious to some but to me, this is the only way i know. :3

Suddenly i'm feeling rather generous >x< So i decided to share a wee bit of my technique in doing... dum dum dummm...

Skies.

One thing people hate to do other than grass. And trees >_> Alright, enough of rants. This is just a rough tutorial, it does not meant to be detailed in all, just enough to give you of a rough idea of how to do it. I'm not good at tutoring peeps, but since lotso peeps are like... asking me so a way to stop all those questions are just do one tutorial. The tutorial is at [link] , not here X3;;; Anyways, i'll describe it more detailed here. I ran out of spaces to write on that so i'll do it here. The picture used is one of my arts.

I don't need to explain on the first part, so i'll skip on to the color picking part. Since we are using the gradient tool, it is essential to pick one light blue and one darker blue(not too dark) for color. The sky isn't all that flat so by using both, it'll look more natural. Play around until you have exactly what you wanted. Of course it'll look strange but it won't when you've add in the clouds and such. I usually grained the sky with using the grain filter, but it's your choice.

Drag the sky layer into your main picture's layers. Erase parts that are unwanted (such as when it's covering the parts of the image). When it's clean, the next step is to do the fadings effect. You see, like i said, the general rule in doing a sky is the sky gets fader and fader when it's farther away, but darker when it's nearer. See why i need you to pick a darker tone during the gradient job? Chose a bigger brush (like what you see in the tutorial), with the airbrush capability toggled on and on a 50% opacity or so, it depends. Do all the job in one layer, don't do new layers. First, do the 1st stroke lightly so that there is still more blue than white. Do the second one (still on the same layer) just slight below the first stroke you've just done. Put the opacity for the brush on lower so it won't turn all white when you do the stroking. What you'll get is half blue, half white. And for the third part where it gets farther, just do it like the second part. Lower than the previous stroke. You'll get all white. Now you're done with that.

Extra Note : You can, however stroke lightly(low opacity) on some areas with a slightly dark blue for a nicer effect.

Next on is the clouds. Do a new layer (normal properties, above the sky layer) and use the paintbrush (100% opacity, small size) to do them. You can take referrence on how to do the clouds and such if you are in doubt. Like the sky, the term smaller when farther, bigger when nearer applies here. So clouds gets smaller in the distant (the near-white part) and bigger in the nearest distant (the dark part) as you can see in the picture used in the tutorial.

The next step is the cloud's shadings. Do a new layer, multiple properties based. Choose a nice soft blue color, then use the paintbrush to shade them up. Smudge tool is helpful to even up the shadings, so the clouds look more natural and fluffy , not arkwardly still cardboard-like. I generally use the burn tool to give some part of the clouds a darker tone.

Add a few finishing touches and wallah, you've just done your own sky :3 Of course, the example in the image isn't all that clear since it's small but you may take a look at the finished product (as well as others that i've applied the same technique to) in my galleries. Hope you at LEAST understands what i'm teaching here XD;; Like i said, i'm not good at teaching, but i think i already give you enough hints on how to do it. I found this technique accidently when i'm playing around in photoshop, so you must do the same. When you explore, that is where you shall learn Cheerio!
