Description
So, as promised , here's how to make your own Game of Thrones Dragon Egg with nothing but paper, glue and play-doh.
There you have it: an easy to make $20 dragon egg.
Hope you all like the mini-tutorial!
Please, leave your thoughts and suggestions.
- How Heavy is it?
It weighs exactly 360 grams.
You can fill it with gesso if you want something heavier.
TIP: if you fill it only 1/4 of the way through, it'll behave like a weeble - How fragile is it?
The papier-machê itself is OUTSTANDINGLY strong, so it depends solely on the kind of play-doh you're using.
If you want something really sturdy, you can use polymer clay or Fimo and bake it, leaving a small gap for the air inside to expand. The papier-mache will withstand the heat, don't worry.
I suggest making them out of cold porcelain (biscuit clay) though, you can find it for sale online, but here's a good and easy DIY recipe.
It behaves a lot like Fimo and doesn't need baking.
Cold porcelain is VERY resistant, so if you're making them with/for your kids this is the best choice, hands down. - How do I make the scales?
A batch of different sized leaf shaped cookie cutters will do an excellent job. That's what I used
You can buy them online here .
No, I'm not getting any money for this. If you know a better place you can leave a comment below!)

Awesome tutorial, thanks a lot for making this. Out of curiosity, are these fairly strong?

Very
The papier mache is very sturdy, very hard to brake or bend and once the play-doh is completely dry, it's hard and elastic, which means they're more resistant than plastic or ceramic ones
But it takes a long time for the play-doh to dry completely

Ó, essa massinha que eu usei é a Soft da Acrilex, endurece em umas 6 horas e tem potes com 500g, você só vai precisar de um!

I promise i will!
Might fiddle with the materials, as we're poor on play-do'h in Denmark.
How was the consistency of your play-do'h scales after they hardened
and were covered in paint?

I actually used an acrylic based play-doh we have here in Brazil that's very cheap and hardens pretty fast and effectively — I have some dice I made from it, for instance.
But you can use actually any kind of clay or modeling paste, it really doesn't matter as long as it's not flaky and you can cut them with a cookie cutter — hell you might just use papier mache!

We have these insane rules on products in DK, so even after 12 years
our play-do'h is still all smushy. I might test out some deco' clay
instead. I'll post you an update when i get started if you wanna see how 'that' project
is going to turn out XD

Better than the show version! Paint job and presentation are amazing. So classy.
And you did it in like 1/10th the work any other tutorials I've seen! Like the most popular one involves cracking open a coconut and gluing it back together?? Anyway amazing job!
