You're not the first to explore this. Ever see the original TMNT movie from 1990? They take straight from the Mirage comics starting at issue #11, which is the whole introspection-in-the-wilderness issue. The Turts are in an unenviable situation when you think of it. And they are smart enough to know it. But boys will be boys, so let's internalize everything because that the manly macho thing to do. You do not give them the luxury of that mask, and that's a good thing.
