Actually, as I said in another comment, the animation for using the Ammo pack is still used in-game for when you lay down frag rounds or incendiary ammo. Watch when the characters do it and you'll notice that they spread their arms out as if forming a mound of ammo.

The green Medkit is an item that was not used in Left 4 Dead 2, the Ammo Pack. Basically it was a one-time use item that would allow you to create an ammo pile, in case your team was low on ammo. It turned out to not be as useful as Valve had hoped, so they left it out of the game. There was also a yellow medkit that was the early version of the defib unit.

The Green medkit is a beta item from Left 4 Dead 2, an Ammo Pack. Basically it was supposed to a way for you to supply your teammates with extra ammo, but it ended up not being that useful so they scrapped it. Actually, the animation for the deployment of the ammo pack is still used, though: When you're deploying the special ammo (frag rounds or incendiary ammo) if you watch the way they move, you'll notice they're spreading their hands apart as if to form a mound of ammo like the ones you sometimes find.
There was also a yellow medkit, which was a beta version of the Defibrilator.

I found that very interesting. Ammo piles would be very useful for camping spots in finales. Was it a certain amount or was it unlimited like the ones you fine in saferooms?
