Whoever requested the change of deviation type: screw you. This is a tutorial, not a scrap.

Tutorial for voice acting, and the quality of sound vs quality of voice.

Many amature voice actors like myself run into this problem: you do a "screaming line" and you hear a mechanical pop/crack from your lines because of the recording quality input. This is one way to avoid that problem. I hope it helps.

Made with help of MS paint and Audacity.

Ah, yes, I call that "chicken before the egg" theory.

What professional animators do is that they will work out the movements/scenes for their project, recieve the lines, then go back into their animation and draw-in the lip movements. Sometimes, they will also fix/change facial expressions to make it fit.

However, my friend ~Darkxide has made some animation series... you should ask him for an oppinion too! Oh, and check out his animations for Organize THIS! as they are really amusing.

Thanks very much. *still a bit embarrassed about my Knuckles voice*

I was totally not ready for that role but was the only person to audition. Even though I'm a GIRL. I blew out my vocal chords twice while working on those lines. @_@

Voice acting is always something I've wanted to do or try. But I'm unfamiliar with any equipment and or software that I would need. Or how much I should expect it to cost.

Any pointers/advice for the noob?

Advice? Well I personally buy at Best Buy. They may not have intelligent employees, but that actually helps.

I search their computer microphones for a headset, that claims to do multiple features (seems redundant to say "for gaming, voice-chat, recording, etc!" but really it does seem to make a difference). Then stay within the $20-30 range. Take your mic home and test it out... after saying several random phrases (try to include stuff with the P, B, S, and K sounds in it!), decide if the quality is good enough. if there is any pops/hisses then try to move it around, if that doesn't help than TAKE IT BACK claiming that the left ear bud didn't work (or an equally lame excuse). Then go back to the microphone section and try again until you get the desired results.

As for programs, please use [link] Its free and safe. Remember to "export to" to save a sound in a usable format like .wav or .mp3. It can edit your sound, length, and even upgrade the quality of your sound if you learn how to use it. Check here for instructions on how to save .mp3 files: [link]

Hope it helps. Cheers, friend, and tell me how things go! If you want somewhere to post your audio without needing a video, I use [link] because you can save audio files and let others view them.

You are amazing! Thank you so much for your help, I really do appreciate it. I'll be sure to let you know how things go as soon as I get a mic. Thanks again!

I'm trying to figure out how to use this flash animation program I got, and if I can get it to work I'll hafta do a Rielle and make her say something. Try the animating and voicing all in one go~
