Thanks. I started using SAI, so now for each panel I have a layer for: Line art, basic color, and shading. Sometimes there are other layers for things such as fire etc.

I then put all these layers in a folder.

I want to know what I should be doing instead. Like: are any of these steps terribly inefficient?

No, I think those seem fine. I don't bother with layer folders, but everyone has different ways to organize themselves.

I think as time goes on you'll end up using more and more layers for your work, but for now you don't want to push it. Use only what you think you'll need.
