Description
Mechagodzilla is one of my favorite Godzilla foes, and back when Toho announced the production of GODZILLA X MECHAGODZILLA (called GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA in the US), I could only have imagined what this new Mechagodzilla would look like. So this pencil drawing, dated April 8, 2002, is my own original Mechagodzilla design, called Mechagodzilla Omega. I imagined it as an Artificial Intelligence system (gone wrong) that was given a Mechagodzilla body no different from the 1993 version, but it was unsatisfied with it and discarded it. It then used/stole all sorts of technological odds & ends to make itself a bio-mechanical body that was almost exactly like Godzilla's, but metallic! (The Pinocchio Syndrome) This is similar in concept to the DEXTER'S LABORATORY episode "Ultra Jerk 2000" (one of my favorite episodes).

While I was always keen on the idea of a bio-mechanical Mechagodzilla, I was amazed to see that, among GXMG's production designs by Shinji Nishikawa, he drew several bio-mechanical (even synthetic/organic) Mechagodzillas! Seems Shinji and I had something in common!
