It's been a while, but I finally finished the first set of characters from the Pippi Longstocking books by Astrid Lindgren, drawn in my style! Drawn over a pencil sketch with my Bamboo Fun tablet in Flash (on October 12).

More on the way! (Yes, I intend to include Mr. Nilsson and Pippi's Horse!)

I know I'm a few years too late, but I kinda prefer these designs over the ones in the Nelvana series. I also know these are supposed to be book illustrations, but they still kinda make me imagine if there was another animated TV-show adaptation, with these designs, and I of course picture it would have better animation than the Nelvana series, too.

I agree. Like in The Peanuts Movie. I want it in that style too, like I imagined with The Madeline Movie.

Another adaptation would be great. Although, for once, I would like for it *not* to be a remake of the Inger Nilsson version. Most adaptations after 1970 try too hard to do a remake of the Inger Nilsson series (instead of really adapting the books), as it's just taking the easy way out.) I respect the Inger Nilsson series very much, but it's time to be a little more unique. There's lots of characters and situations from the books that need to be realized.

If it were up to me, I would do a movie trilogy (each movie would be 2-2 1/2 hours long), back-to-back, based on all three of Astrid Lindgren's books. And today's movie-making technology would truly lend itself to really bringing her world to life!

Hayao Miyazaki's planned version from 1971 would be great, if he were given another chance. Otherwise, the only other animator who is truly entitled to doing Pippi, IMHO, is Erik Wiese, co-creator of THE MIGHTY B! (I considered Bessie Higgenbottom to be the spiritual successor to Pippi.)

Actually, Bessie hearkens back to old-time girl characters like Little Lulu, Little Audrey, Little Iodine, etc. But what I thought she and Pippi have in common is, they both have pets (Happy is a combination Horse and Mr. Nilsson), she sometimes lives alone (the Hive is her Villa Villekulla), she has pigtails, and has a crazy and irrepressible behavior! I love THE MIGHTY B!, and feel it's the best Nicktoon since REN & STIMPY (which it strongly reminded me of, considering many veterans on that show worked on this series, including Bill Wray, Katie Rice, etc.).

But while I understand you don't like THE MIGHTY B!, we can both agree that Pippi is a great character. And as I discussed elsewhere here on DA, she's also my favorite superheroine! What do you think of that?

Mighty B has good characters, good art style (Like Ren & Stimpy) and the same music from that show, but the humor is so stupid, makes the character annoying, but sometimes I watch that show too
